Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Micheal J. Fox has been an actor I have loved to watch. From the great Back to The Future movies to the hilarious sitcom, Spin City, he's always fit right in his character. Yet this film, is his worst performance ever. Watching him act in this film made me wonder if he really cared at all. It looked as if he was just saying the lines and thinking about where he should go out to dinner later in the day. It looked as if he was in a hurry to get somewhere else so he was just saying his lines. Maybe his soul had left his body kinda like in the idea of the film and all was left was a ghost with no emotion at all. It was a big dissapointment to me because usually Fox puts alot more into making his characters unique. Just about anyone could have done what he did in this movie.
The film itself was more of the same. It felt like a demo and not the real thing. I was watching it on tv and wondering if it was actually the final product. It just seemed to have scenes thrown together with no real meaning to them. It's as if I was watching the actors say their lines during a read through instead of the real thing. The only good thing, I can say for the film is that it had great special effects. Maybe the makers of the film thought the special effects would be enough and decided not to work on the acting, directing, or script.
The plot of the film is that Frank Bannister (Micheal J. Fox) goes around town acting like a ghostbuster and getting rid of ghosts in people's homes. He is actually able to talk and communicate with the ghosts, some of which are his friends. Soon enough, he gets set up by evil ghosts and is accused of murder. He must now along with his ghost friends, prove his innocence. In the meantime he runs around trying to catch the ghosts and even has himself partially killed so he can become a ghost himself, go kill the evil ghost, and come back into his body so he can be brought back to life. Yeah I know it sounds weird, but wait till you see the movie and all of this will seem normal compared to other events in the film.
The script and plot is totally convoluted. Its a whole bunch of action thrown together with no real end to the chaos. There is so much going on in the film, yet most makes little sense at all. Of course, it's also filled with your typical cliches of ghost films..... black goo all over the place, people using the cross and holy water to kill off ghosts and of course the typical line between going either to heaven or hell. The script just about stole all the ideas that I had seen before in other ghost/horror movies. All the film is a bunch of confusion and chaos.
