Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
'Bound' was released in 1996. The film, which was written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers, is a steamy thriller with all the blood, violence, profanity, and lesbian sex that any viewer could want. This is certainly not a movie for the timid viewer or one that is offended by the intense passion between two women.
Corky (Gina Gershon) is a beautiful and butch ex-con, who has just recently been released from prison and takes a job renovating apartments. While riding in the elevator, she meets Violet (Jennifer Tilly), the breathless bombshell girlfriend to a mafia thug. It is obvious from the start there is some attraction between these two women but the depth of that attraction is totally unexpected.
Violet begins to call on Corky for small tasks, like fetching a ring she accidentally dropped in the sink drain. Passion begins to flair when the two are alone in the apartment and Violet exposes the tattoo on top of her breast. Violet, being the voluptuous little sex kitten that she is, then takes Corky's hand and places it on her breast. She admits that she is trying to seduce Corky and things progress a further but cools down quickly when Ceasar (Joe Pantoliano), Violet's money laundering boyfriend, returns home. In the darkened apartment, Ceasar is first enraged because he mistakes Corky for a man but then calms down when he learns it's just a girl. Ah, silly man to think his only competition would be another male.
Susie Bright, sex expert, was on hand during filming to make sure the sex scenes between the two women were realistic. A job well done.
After Shelly(Barry Kivel), who has been stealing money from the mob, is beaten bloody in the bathroom of the apartment, threatened with gardening shears, and then capped by one of the thugs, a bloody Ceasar returns to the apartment with the two million dollars, which is equally drenched in blood. It is then that Violet confides in Corky that she wants out.
Ceasar has the two million dollars on hand in the apartment and is waiting for Gino Marzzone(Richard Sarafian), the leader of the family, to pick the money up along with his son, Johnnie (Christopher Meloni) , who doesn't get along with Ceasar. The two women devise a plan where they will steal the money and set Ceasar up to take the fall. When things don't go exactly as they want, their plan starts to fall apart. It is during this part of the film that you will be wriggling on the edge of your seat as the scenes jump quickly and the action is nonstop. Definitely a nail biting flick.
There are several storylines unfolding at once and the cast does a fabulous job of making the movie flow from one scene to the next. 'Bound' is an exceptional film in that the viewer has absolutely no idea what will happen from one scene to the next, whether the women can pull it off, and how the film will eventually end. This is a totally unpredictable movie with fast action, plenty of blood, and a passion between two women that will send volts of excitement through your body.
'Bound' won the 1997 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film.
