I accidently caught Curdled on HBO tonight. What a treat! I had never heard of this movie so I almost didn't watch it...but then I saw one of the Baldwin brothers and decided to watch for a few minutes. The next thing I knew it was over. That is a good movie! Sucked me right in and suspended time.
Seems there is a Serial Killer on the loose, and he's targeting rich broads. He dates them for a bit, then that old urge just hits and gee..what's a guy to do?
Cleaning up the crime scenes is a company that does just that. (Yes, these actually do exist.) Got a bloody mess you can't deal with? Call these folks, they'll clean up after the cops get done. Funny thing though, that new girl seems a bit too into the job....
To go any further at all would be to give it away. Not happening. Suffice it to say that this thriller ended in such a perfect way that I was a bit stunned. I'll be buying this one for sure.
William Baldwin is Paul Guell, the poor sap that just can't seem to keep a gal alive. All Serial Killers have a particular bent... Paul likes heads (I said headS..plural.. get it outta the gutter!). He likes to hold the heads after he cuts them off the gals. Baldwin does a remarkable job as Guell. I was a bit surprised. I'm not saying this Baldwin brother can't act.. he's just not quite as accomplished as his brother, Alec....but he blows Alec away in this one! Baldwin does a perfect misunderstood guy that just happens to have this slight problem. He plays it so well that you actually sympathize with this guy! Among his other credits are Flatliners, Backdraft, and Virus.
Angela Jones (Pulp Fiction, Morella, Fixations) plays the newly hired clean up gal, Gabriela Ponce. She claims she just needs the money. She claims she wants the worst crime scenes so she can build up a tolerance to the gore. heh. Jones is utterly amazing here. She plays the innocent well, even as she's darting her eyes in thought and belying the justifications. Standing ovation.
Reb Braddock both wrote and Directed this 1996 masterpiece. It is the only film in his credits as either. Wow. This was seven years ago..what's he doing now? This should have established him. I have to assume a lack of proper promotions and therefore not near enough viewers, because the script and direction both are must-sees. No doubt about it, this film has been grossly neglected.
Ok.. it is a little slow, but it's building the characters for a totally off-the-wall ending. Gawd I want to tell you sooo bad what happens. It's just that good. The ending is the pay-off and worth the wait. You'll groan, and laugh. I love this movie! LOL
Run time is 88 marvelous minutes that speed by, and it is rated R for violence/gore, and for brief language. It is gory and violent. Watch it first and use your own discretion. Mine could have watched it around 8, but I'm not sure it would have kept their attention.... It does not have a feel good ending with a message... far from it. Better say 16 and up.
Gee..do I recommend this one? It immediately became one of my absolute favorites. It needs to reach cult status. This is just, man, I'm out of words. Just buy it.
