I am not sure if industry fodder is a commonly used term in this country or not, but I’m sure that’s who this movie is made for. Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt are very sexy and that’s why I went to see this movie. That’s also why I stayed for 2 hours that felt more like 8. I can’t remember if I stayed til the very end or not. I suspect that I did. And even though it was a very bad movie, it was very memorable. It could be because I saw it with a very funny friend of mine who is Irish. We were in stitches and quote that movie to this day - the line they used in all the adverts. “I’m not going back.”
This movie was churned out by Columbia Pictures and is showing on NBC this week. I highly recommend seeing it. A story about an IRA soldier who emigrates to the U.S. to do something with bombs on a boat. Oh. How interesting. An Irishman and a boat and bombs. Soooooo….anyway…Harrison for is the other male and he is the loving father and husband and high moral employee of the N.Y.P.D. Taking several grains of salt I approached the movie in a relaxed fashion, allowing all the details to amuse me, after all, I am here to be entertained, right. 1 Irish dancing scene*, 2 Ira shootings, 3 Bonding scenes and 1 high moral cop scene later I am entertaining the idea of leaving. I stay. Not because I doubt the economics of sunk costs, but b/c maybe they’ll be some really funny lines. Of course there were. But that’s pretty much all I got out of the movie. Oh yeah, um, everyone is saved, brad is a little bit badboy, Harrison is the usual styles (all good) and I didn’t sit in anything sticky. Oh…except guess who gets shot in the end. Brad Pitt. Why? Because Harrison Ford killed him. Damn NYPD.
This is a poorly scripted movie with to much ephmises on trying to make me feel something for the players in the film, bad irish accents, the plot gets lost time and time again and really no good reason for anyone to see the film except to see two high profile actors make a very bad movie. However, it does have a very high comedy redemption value.
* I cannot rightly remember if there was actually an Irish dancing scene in the movie or not, but in this type of movie their usually is.
