Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
All Over Me is about best friends Ellen (Tara Subkoff) and Claude - short for Claudia (played by Alison Folland). Claude is the responsible nicer one and Ellen is the beautiful wilder one. They are 15-year olds who live in NYC. This movie is rated R and was released in 1997.
The girls have a love/hate relationship from the beginning. Even though they are best friends, Ellen is rude and mean to Claude. Ellen teases her for being fat and there are photos of skinny girls with the sign "Think before you sink" on the fridge. Claude doesn't seem to have a problem with her weight.
I found the beginning interesting and I was drawn into the movie easily. Ellen is attracted to an overbearing abusive boyfriend and stays out all night while Claude has a job, does the grocery shopping and listens to her mother. Claude befriends a neighbor who most likely in his early 20's and is gay. Unfortunately he is murdered. Ellen and Claude continue to drift apart despite Claude's attempts to stay loyal. Ellen gets wrapped up in her boyfriend, drugs, and drinking. Claude is discovering that she is attracted to girls. Even though in the very beginning the movie seemed to be about both of them, it ends up being more about Claude.
There are some details that are left out but it doesn't matter. We never know why Ellen is allowed to stay at Claude's without ever letting her parents know where she is or why her parents don't seem to notice or care that she's on drugs and looks strung-out. Basically this movie is about how things change when teenagers start to grow apart after they start following their sexual urges. I think it was a great movie with an indy-vibe. If you don't have an interest in teenagers or homosexuality then you shouldn't watch this movie. Even though there is drug use it is not a movie about drugs, and the drug use isn't overbearing.
