Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
As a fan of Ewan McGregor and his work, I was happy to stumble upon this film. The story revolves around a coal mine's brass band, and the small town's struggle to save their colliery, in order to save jobs for the working class. While the premise of the film revolves around a political commentary, the storyline follows the emotional plight of the colliery's brass band, which will cease to exist if the coal mine is shut down. Following the lives and struggles of the band members, the film has a deep emotional impact. One of the main storylines follows the elderly band leader and his son, in their struggle to understand each other and survive in a world that seems pitted against them.
"Brassed Off" is an excellent film, although the emotional depth of the story is somewhat depressing. If you have had any experience in a band, you will be able to further understand the comradery that exists between the characters. The emotional highs and lows you will experience during the film are incredibly powerful. The scene where they play "Danny Boy" is the peak of emotion, which will blow you away.
If you are looking for an emotional film with depth, an excellent cast, brilliant music, and a wonderful story, you should definately see "Brassed Off".
