Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
At first, when I saw the commercial for Flubber, I thought, "puh-lease! Who’s going to watch that?" After a few days, people in my class started talking about it, and how great it was. I thought, "Oh my god! How could they watch this green goo?" My best friend started talking about it.
That's it! I've had it! Now, I had to see what all the fuss is about. That weekend, I went to the theatre thinking, "How bad can this be? Everyone else likes it." I came out of the movie theatre amazed. That was some gooey fun. I can't believe I didn't want to even see it.
Anyway, here's how it goes: Professor Brainard (Robin Williams) is a brilliant man of science. Sometimes, he is so lost in thought that he forgets about everything in the world. He was supposed to get married twice to the same woman, but forgot all about it while getting caught up in his fascinating world of science.
But Phillip can't miss the third chance his beloved fiancée Sarah Jean Reynolds (Marcia Gay Harden) gives him. Phillip has a whole lot on his mind. He is working on a project that could save the university, that he's teaching that is going financially broke.
On the night that Sarah gives Phillip a third chance to marry her, Phillip finally, after 2 years of work he creates the miraculous goo, that may very well save the school from closing. This goo is bouncy, it's gullible, it's moldable, it's... it's FLUBBER! The goo may save the school, but not his relationship with Sarah. But Phillip doesn't stop trying.
What Phillip has to go through to win Sarah over from his old, sneaky partner, Wilson Croft (Christopher McDonald), who came back to town to steal Sarah from Phillip? He cheats at a basketball game, by applying some FLUBBER on the soles of the shoes of the basketball players; he took Sarah for a car ride in the sky (by putting flubber in the engine of his car) but he would never have won Sarah over, if is weren't for WEEBO, his flying robot assisstant, who flew to Sarah, and told her how Phillip truly feels about her.
Finally, after impressing Sarah with his flying rubber, they finally got married. And of course, he saved the school, after showing his idea of a flying car to a car company, which payed him millions of dollars. So this movie ended well.
Here are some of my favorite scenes:
Funniest scene: When Flubber goes out of control, and
starts flying around, and wrecking the
entire neighborhood. I was laughing for
quite a while.
Most dramatic scene: When Phillip talks to WEEBO about
his problem with forgetting,
because he is absent minded, not
because he is ignorant, but because
he is in love with Sarah (that was
beautiful *sniff, sniff*)
Most touching scene: same as above
Saddest scene: When poor WEEBO dies (*tear*).
Most violent scene: When the goons come, and destroy
everything in Phillip's house in search
for the miraculous goo (argh).
Happiest scene: Phillip and Sarah finally got married
(wedding march).
Best scene: Basketball game. A team that should be in the
NBA, lost to a team of lazy, hopeless slobs
(It's amazing what a little Flubber on the
sole of the shoes can do).
Worst scene: can't come up with one.
I can't really compare this movie to any other movie, because that's the first in it's kind, but I can suggest some movies I like starring Robin Williams. Here they are: Dead poets society, and Mrs. Doubtfire (okay, so I'm not a big fan).
Overall, I think that this was a really good movie. I saw it 4 times in the movies, and I bought it on cassette. I even learned a lesson: don't judge a movie by what you see on a commercial, ask your friends what they think about the movie.
