I maintain that officer Bud White (the name isn't accidental) is the most sympathetic (for lack of a better word) of the bunch. I think it's pretty clear the Kevin Spacey character was into payoffs and other sleazy business, although he wasn't happy with himself and may have changed, given the chance. And Exley (as I saw him) was eager to prove himself at any cost. He knowingly slept with a fellow officer's girlfriend, which doesn't make him exactly likeable in my book.

What gave you the idea that Exley was dishonest or ratted on other officers just for the sake of a promotion? And Vincennes was by far the most decent of the bunch, which is why he got killed, of course.
