I did like the scene near the end when she had the fancy jewel afterall, and everyone wanted the damn thing and she was sitting there, she looked at it, tears in her eyes and she goes "Oooops.. and it slips and sinks to it's grave below, to join Jack, her lost love, proving her story was true. That was the best touch of the movie for me, more so than any other - it represents the power of memory.

You know, just like you, I saw the A&E special just two or three days before I saw the film. It was a very good primer, and learning all the details made it a little easier to see the 'story' that Cameron was trying to make. Sometimes, like with Pearl Harbor, I would rather see a documentary about all the facts that a lame attempt at a romance, but I think seeing the 3 hour documentary on the Titanic first made me realize that there might be a much better story than just a boat sinking.

Most Moving Parts For Me (Reply to this comment)

I agree with you that the disappointed expressions on the faces of the captain and designer spoke volumes.
Also, I know full-well why the scene of the Mommy lulling her kids to sleep with a bedtime story before they would all be killed was the deciding factor that made Celene Dion add her beautiful voice to this movie.
And there were so many other moving scenes--like how the elderly Rose broke down and cried even after all of those years when she looked out the porthole and compared the ruined ship to the way that she'd remembered it.
I think the scene that moved me most of all was the curtain call that I believe represented Heaven--where class no longer mattered. Just love! :`o)
