Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Cube is one of those movies that'll make you wonder "what the heck?" as soon as you see the credits role. I don't think it was ever in theatres, but can be found in most video stores.
In Cube, it starts out with a bunch of people finding each other in a place where every room is almost identical, except for different colors, and some rooms are trapped. Nobody knows how they got there or why they are there, and nobody knows where this place is. They eventually figure out a way to check for traps and then begin moving about this crazy maze. The drama unfolds as we find out more about these individuals and how they perform under pressure.
What makes this movie so good is that you have never really seen any of these actors before, and we meet them all at the same time and they stay together through most of the film, so there is not a single lead actor or actress. Because of this, we don't know what to expect from any of them and have no idea who is going to live or die. This is why I like these kind of independent films.
If you have a surround sound system, I highly suggest you crank it up while watching this film. Part of the enjoyment of Cube comes from the ambient creaks and moans that play all throughout the movie. The cinematography is ok, considering 90% of the scenes take place in a 14'x14' room.
I don't want to go into it too much, but Cube is full of suprises, and the ending will make you scratch your head. Watch it with a group of friends and then discuss it with each other. Cube is a scifi gem!
