I'm as much a Nirvana fan as the next guy. I think Kurt Cobain was one of the greatest, most influencial song-writers in the latter half of the 20th century. That's why I wanted to see this movie, to maybe try and see what happened there, and why a legend died.
This film does a great, mostly unbiased job of exploring the situations surrounding Kurt's death. You get a great sense of what could have happened through all of the interviews with close and not-so-close friends of Kurt and Courtney. I won't spoil it, I want you to see it for yourself. But if you have any interest in Kurt Cobain, you owe it to yourself to see this film, and to decide for yourself what happened.
The documentary presents a clear set of opinions from different people, even people who don't necessarily have an opinion, but do know the insides of Kurt and Courtney's relationship. Hear surprising testimony and first hand stories, but don't expect to hear any Nirvana music because Courtney threatened legal action if any was used in the film.
This film is unique... it is indeed a true documentary, not a Hollywood detective film. But you will come away feeling like your own detective, and you might be surprised what you find.
