Minnie makes this a movie worth seeing, but I would not recommend it for kids. The storyline is easy to follow and the acting is very good. Although I certainly didn't rent the movie for its historical value, the story about the invention of the photograph makes a perfect setting for this movie.
I don't want to give too much of the movie away (there weren't too many surprises along the way), but Minnie Driver's character is very captivating. The limited amount of nudity and violence in this movie cuts it from the list for kids, but it makes it an intriguing film for Minnie Driver fans around the world. There is definitely a dark side to this movie that puts it down a level from some of her other performances, but it did manage to keep my attention for the length of the film (it was quite long).
It's a quiet movie without much in the way of big loud scenes or songs, so I would not recommend it for large groups unless everyone is really dedicated to watching the movie. Instead, I would recommend it for any Minnie Driver fan anyone looking for a good movie to watch on a Friday night. The historical aspects of the movie make it worth watching as well, but I don't like it when people watch a movie like this and walk away talking about the "historical accuracy" of it.
