The time period is the 1940s. You are a young woman, sitting at a typewriter writing hundreds of letters each day...but these are not pleasant letters: "I regret to inform you that your son died in battle. He was an incredibly brave man and America is forever in debt to him for giving his life for his country". These are letters of death; in a number of days their parents will receive the news, not knowing how to act. Some may cry; others rage in anger that they will never again see their son. Now, imagine if you were the mother of four courageous, handsome young men and received the news of three of their deaths on the same day. The government is on a determinated mission to recover the last Ryan and bring him back home to his mother.
The leader of a group of soldiers (Hanks) must now find Private Ryan (Damon), and give his mother one last hope. When they finally discover him he is very unwilling to return home before he fully offers his country all of his strength and power as an individual. It is a long, hard, and violent journey that formulates a sense of support and knowledge between the soldiers, whether or not it is obviously shown. Absolutely stunning and does not hold back when showing the effects of war.
