Right away, I'm going to tell you that you only get one shot with this movie. If you watch it your first time with any expectations, you're going to be disappointed, and you'll never end up liking it. It's not a ground-breaking movie, there's nothing revolutionary about it, and, to be completely honest, the humor in the movie is relatively one-dimensional.
That having been said, I truly found this one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. But I was fortunate, in that I had someone (my brother) tell me beforehand not to take it seriously. I sat down to watch it on a quiet Sunday evening, merely because it was on, and found myself on the floor laughing within seconds. Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell put in beautiful performances as the Butabi brothers, two blithering idiots with a passion for clubbing.
One thing that I thought was very important about this movie was that, for the most part, it stayed away from being too much like the Saturday Night Live skit upon which the movie is based. Yes, there were scenes at a club of Ferrell and Kattan "bumping" girls and getting kicked out of the club, but those are only at the very beginning of the film. In fact, it seemed like they were put in only to satiate people who were watching the movie BECAUSE of the skit. I watched it DESPITE the skit, and I'm glad I did.
I think the best part of this movie is its repeat value. If you appreciate it the first time, you'll like it more every time you see it. Also, it's got a ton of lines that are even funnier when you repeat them among friends, even if they haven't seen it.
If you like movies like Dumb and Dumber and Wayne's World, then I'd say this is your kind of flick. Give it a shot.
