stotts4's Full Review: Kathy Smith - Kickboxing Workout
I have taught aerobics classes for 12 years now and in have recently added kickboxing to my list of favorites. I like Kathy Smith and have used her videos for a long time. In this video Keith Cooke is the martial arts expert and team teaches with Kathy. Also team teaching with Kathy is Keli Roberts, she's great.
This is a good video. Kathy and team give careful instruction with regards to form and safety. The warm up is gradual. Kathy includes a lot of instruction on the kicks. This is really good if you are just getting started in kickboxing. She has some really fun kickboxing routines taught by herself, Keli, and Keith. A lot of kickboxing videos are very repetitious, and she incorporates variety to make the routines fun. Then after the cardio part she has some really good kicking drills done slowly for strength. They are hard. After cooldown stretch she adds a few bonus exercises, which I don't know why she doesn't just include them in the workout. There is a (very) short ab section, that's bad. But the exercises are different, kind of a yoga hybrid for the abs and back. The exercises are good.
My only gripe: The fun stuff is really short! You spend a lot of time learning the form on kicks and there is not a lot of time to just do have fun with the routine. So, the video gets well, boring, after a while. Also a very short stretch at the end.
In summary, it is overall a good video. It has fun routines and if you can rewind the tape and do them a couple of times it can be a good workout. Better yet, turn on your own music and go to town with what you have learned!
