Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
I may be just one notch to girly for this movie but I really couldn't stand "The Matrix". Everytime I tell anyone this I am the subject of an intense screaming match.
It's just that this movie really doesn't have the much going for it beyond it's special effects.
Keanu Reeves stars in this movie about a man who is transported from his fake "real" world into the actual world of the Matrix where everyone except the select few are hibernating in little chambers dreaming their lives on Earth.
While the story on the surface is a bit scary, we've all had those thoughts. What if the whole galaxy is only a molecule on the big toe of a giant or if we're a cat whose dreaming we're a human and that our life isn't real.
Keanu, oh Keanu, well that man simply couldn't act if you paid him (well, they did and he still can't). He is a very handsome guy, I'll give him that, and he looks very nice without his shirt on and he's a good on-screen kisser. Eh, not enough bucko.
Every scene in this movie is incredibly abstract, requiring all too much thought than what is usually demanded during an action movie. It's an unwritten rule:
--One should not have to think about philosophical concepts while at the same time seeing planes blow up and people get shot at---
The other actors in the movie aren't all that bad, it's just they don't get to do that much. The ultra feminist Carry Anne Moss is the no-smack do it all Lara Croft of the Matrix. I, personally, find these characters quite irritating, ao I was not exactly cheering her on to kick some bad guys' butt. Lawerence Fishbourne was fine, he was a good guy and had some very good scenes as did the Agent Smith character who was my personal favorite.
"The Matrix" is good film for you if:
1) you like action movies
2) you like special effects
3) you like Keanu
If you fit into any of the above criteria, go for it. "The Matrix", as far as I've heard, is very good but I just didn't see it.
