Now I know I'm a little behind on the times cause I just saw this movie last night and I could seriously kick myself for not watching it sooner,this is the best action/sci-fi/adventure movie I have ever had the pleasure of watching it was so engrossing that I couldn't take my eyes off of it throughout the whole thing. I am the kind of person who grew up reading science fiction almost from the day I was born, but I never thought that I would ever see a movie about anything this interesting.
The movies main character Thomas A. Anderson aka:"Neo" is played by Keanu Reeves (Who's other movie credits are Johnny Mneumonic, The Devil's Advocate and both Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey) who in my opinion is one of the best actors I've had the privelege of watching in many worthwhile movies in the past. But this one is different his character is by day a Program writer for a software company, but at night he's a High Tech Computer Hacker working under the screen name Neo.
Now in some ways this movie is like a sinister Alice in wonderland, but it's so original and completely makes you have to think. Neo goes through alot of things in this movie like dodging bullets,getting hurt,self-doubt and actually dying....but that's just the begining. Because you see he meets up with a woman named Trinity (played by Carrie-Anne Moss) and she takes him to a man named Morpheus (played by actor great Lawrence Fishburne)now Morpheus to me seems like a phrophet for every computer Hacker out there, and only he knows all about the Matrix which is what Neo wants to learn about.
So he joins Morpheus's team of "Freedom Fighters" and goes with him to "The real world" as he calls it, it's a futuristic world set somwhere in the 22nd century where the AI's (Artificial Intelligence/Machines) use humans as energy power, and they grow & harvest people in fields then liquify the dead & feed it to the living ones they grow. In this futuristic world there is only one whole human city left, it is called Zion and it is situated underground close to the earth's core where it is still warm enough to live.
And if all that isn't interesting enough for you Morpheus believes that Neo is "The one", Now what is the one you ask? No one really knows for sure but the Oracle (played by Gloria Foster) foretold that he was once alive but after he died he would come back in a future time, and the things that this person can do are beyond comprehension to us mere mortals such as remake the matrix as he sees fit; he will end the war & bring freedom;stop bullets in mid-air; and is faster & stronger than anyone else anywhere. Now once Neo learns that he is thought to be "The one" he is well....freaked out about it, he doesn't believe that he could do it now Morpheus's advice to him is just "Don't think you can do it, know you can do it."
Now I'll tell you about the other important actors that make up Morpheus's crew there's "Apoc" played by Julian Aramanga; "Switch" played by Belinda McClore; "Mouse" played by Matt Doran; & finally "Cipher" played by Joe Pantoliano they are all very interesting characters but my advice to you is to keep a close eye on Cipher in the middle of the movie. The "bad guys" are the Sentinals which are mechanical creatures who's only purpose is to search & destroy resistance vessels, they look like giant metal squid; and the Sentian programs which are human like cyborgs who can move extremely fast while dodging bullets or blows, can take over other peoples bodies in the matrix, and other intrigueing things.
Now for people who have watched other Keanu movies this one is definitely in a league of it's own, because I have watched everyone of his movies and this one still surprised and thrilled me; he did a wonderful job along with all the other actors in this movie. This movie also has a bit of romance in it between two of it's main characters Neo & Trinity which comes across as the way real life people would go about it if they were going through these same things. Now to the question What is the Matrix, to answer that I'll have to quote a line :"The Matrix is everywhere it is all around us it is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth." (Said by Morpheus to Neo.)
I think I'll let you watch how everything else unfolds in the movie and I think that you'll just love it, now there are supposed to be 2 more movies coming out within the next two years or so about the Matrix I don't know about you guys but I will definitely watch them. If ya'll wanna watch a movie also that is a little similiar to this one go out and rent Johnny Mneunomic (yes it's with Keanu also.) I sure did like that one too.
