I love great special effects. So with all the hype that the matrix has received I thought for sure it would be a movie that I would inhale as readily as a turkey on rye with mayo. However, special effects can only make up for so much and where the matrix excells in special effects it fails in other important areas.
The plot seems simple enough. Computer hacker enters world of computer reality. That's about it. Why he's there? Something about the chosen one who will set mankind free from the matrix inhabitants who are machines that look like men. How all this came to be is explained at different parts in the movie yet is still difficult to comprehend.
The story line is difficult to follow, especially in the critical opening stages of this movie. The acting, however, is first rate with a great cast.
If your into special effects alone the matrix will make a great movie. If you want more though, there are far better.
