Call it one of the best Disney's
Written: Oct 11, 2000
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Excellent plot, excellent graphics, true Disney at its best
Cons:NONE!!
I have got to admit that the past few Disney movies have not really excited me. I mean movies like Hunchback and Hercules really did not do anything for me. But having a young child, you know every new Disney is a requirement!!
When I saw the movie clip for Tarzan, I was literally jumping out of my seat. It seemed like Disney was finally coming back to it's senses! The above mentioned movies it seemed were made more for adult audiences rather than children (although the perfect Disney movie would be a movie that can be enjoyed by both children & adults).
The movie starts out with two families a Human couple with a baby and an ape couple with a baby. The human family narrowly escapes death by the sinking of their boat. Stranded on an Island, they decide to make the best of the situation and build themselves a hut up in a tree. Unfortunately, both for both families, tragedy strikes in the way when a leopard kills the parents in the human family and kills the baby in the ape family. Fortunately, they are there for each other. Although the Ape Father wants nothing to do with baby Tarzan, he is still raised in a loving way by his new ape mother.
Along comes Jane and her Father, who are out studying the ways of Gorilla's, they also have Clayton, a so called guide, who is actually there for other wrong reasons. Tarzan and Jane meet and it appears that they will stay together as Tarzan has now discovered that not only is he not an ape, but he is a human!!! Clayton intervenes in order to be able to take gorillas back to the main lands in order to sell them to the zoo, receiving a hefty sum of money for them. But Tarzan comes to the rescue, takes control of the situation, at the same time finally earning his dying ape fathers respect. Jane at the end decides to stay with Tarzan and eventually so does her father.
As for the story line, It was great!!! I really enjoyed this movie, so did my daughter (meaning we have watched this movie at least 100 times) Some people are condeming this movie as possible beastiality, but I guess that just depends on where your mind is at. This movie is great for the whole family, I would highly recommend it to anyone!!!
