Tae-Bo Home Workout Tapes
When I was in my twenties and thirties, I practiced Martial Arts. I lived near this little Korean guy named Chang Hi Choi. Mr. Choi attempted to teach me everything he knew. He held class 6 days a week in his basement and had about forty students. I trained nonstop for about 7 years. In total it took me 6 years to achieve a black belt. I loved the energy that all of the kicking, blocking and punching gave me. I had confidence to deal with people, when they deserved to be dealt with. When I trained in the 60’s, nobody had a clue what martial arts was all about. Most people thought it was an ancient art form that was no longer practiced. So, just imagine when some idiot started shooting his mouth off towards me in the middle of the 1960’s, I would start off with a palm strike to the temple and finish with a couple of kicks to the sternum and balls. In my young days I enjoyed giving out beatings to those who deserved one. I often enjoyed physically torturing the young punks that gave my younger sister problems. This 26-year-old slime ball thought it would be nice to spread lies and roomers about his sexual relationship with my 16-year-old sister. In return I beat the crap out of him in front of his friends with my hands literally tied behind my back. I also mentioned the same would happen to anyone that looked at her or mentioned her name in public. She never had problems again, from anyone.
I stopped training over 30 years ago, in this time I have seen Karate become commercialized and cheapened through movies and cartoons. It started off in the early 70’s when everyone wanted to be Bruce Lee. In the 80’s there was the little hermaphrodite looking Karate Kid. In the 90’s the Power Rangers took martial arts to an all time low. Most recently Billy Blanks thought of a great way to make a buck off the thousand-year-old art form by introducing the high-energy home exercise tape named Tae-Bo.
This Tae-Bo might have been a well thought out money scam introduced to fat housewives, promising they will drop a few tons and form the ability to beat the crap out of their worthless husbands. These tapes did sell millions of copies and made Billy Blanks and everyone else involved multimillionaires. With that said, these tapes are awesome.
Even with my past experience in martial arts, I was a beginner. I’m now in my 70’s and have not exercised in about thirty-years. I was very tired after about five-minutes. The next morning I felt slight pain in my stomach, legs and arms. I felt severe discomfort in my buttocks from all of the kicks; it felt like I spent a romantic night in prison with a man named Bubba. Since I have not exercised in such a longtime, I knew I would feel sore, but this surprised me.
My daughter who is in such great shape only trains with the advanced Tae-Bo tape; so, she gave me the basic level of training tape. I was too proud to take the beginner Tae-Bo tape.
I think all ages could train with beginner, basic or advanced level tapes. Tae-Bo is designed at working at your own pace. For example, If Billy Blanks is kicking or punching at 25 repetitions per-minute, you could go at your pace of 5 reps per-minute. All of the tapes have basically the same movements but the tapes just pick up the pace as they become more advanced.
All of the tapes are just under 30 minutes. They start with stretching exercises that help prevent injury and build flexibility. After about five minutes the music starts and the reps of punching, kicking and blocking begin. For about 20-minutes you get a great nonstop cardial vascular workout and in the last few minutes Billy Blanks has you doing more stretches and working on your abs.
The Bottom Line On Tae-Bo
These tapes fit into anyone’s workout. I have been doing this for about three weeks now. I have lost 7lbs. Even if you have experience with kicking exercises, you will find this challenging. If you never kicked in your life, you will get the hang of it quick by working at your own pace. They mention on the box, that if you exercise with Tae-Bo for 30 minutes, you will burn 400 calories. These tapes do not require much room; you will need enough space to take one step to the left and right and enough room to take a step forward and backwards. Tae-Bo has been out for a few years; you could probably find great deals on purchasing these tapes. I promise if you stick with Tae-Bo you will feel better about yourself and lose weight. If I can do it, you can do it.
