When I first heard a sequel to "Carrie" was being made, my first thought was "there is NO way it's gonna compare to the original." And I proved myself correct. "Carrie 2" was based upon the same idea as the first: a socially outcasted teenage girl with strange telekinetic powers, a psychotic mother, and friends she cannot trust.
I was impressed by how the two movies were connected, which made the telekinetic powers of the girl, named Rachel this time around, make more sense. They showed several flashbacks to the infamous prom scene from "Carrie", which added to the mood while you watch. But unfortunately I just didn't find it frightening. Bad acting and bad story lines for the most part caused this. Some scenes were just down right corny. Though I must say Emily Bergl(Rachel) impressed me extremely much. She played the part extremely well, and I'm hoping to see more of her in the future, as she is deffinitely a promising actress.
I recommend this movie to any horror movie or "Carrie" fiend, though I can't guarantee that you'll be too scared. Nothing disturbed me more then the original "Carrie", and no movie I've seen since has come close in comparison. And it takes a damn scary movie to frighten me. But hey, give it a chance. Maybe you'll be more impressed then I was.
