Full Moon Pictures was a great horror company that produced many great horror movies. Some of them are now legendary such as the Subspecies series and the Puppet Master series.Full Moon's first movie began in 1989 with the release of Puppet Master.A movie about an ancient evil living in a group of puppets who later go on a killing spree to save the secret of their magic. The movie was such a hit that in 1990, Puppet Master II was created.Followed in 1991 by Puppet Master III, then followed by Puppet Master 4 and 5 in 1994 and Curse of the Puppet Master in 1998.Then in 1999, fans screamed for more of the ghastly puppets and that is when this movie came into the picture.
Retro Puppet Master is the only Puppet Master film with a PG-13 Rating and is the one with the least amount of blood.
Retro Puppet Master explains the mystery of the Puppets' ancestors and how Andre Toulon became to be the Puppet Master.
In Puppet Master 1-6, we recieve some information on Andre Toulon and his puppets but this movie is telling it the way it really happened.
Andre Toulon, a noble young adult, spent his days running a Puppet Show Theatre in Paris before World War I.There he meets his wife to be, Ilsa. You might remember Ilsa in Puppet Master III and what she becomes. One day he meets an Egyptian sorcerer by the name of Afzel, who gives his puppets the ability to move with out strings. This is the famous birth of the puppets! But Afzel stole this magic from an ancient evil god, Lord Sutekh. You also may remember Sutekh from Puppet Master 4 and 5 and his group of Totems.
Lord Sutekh's henchmen destroy Andre's puppet theatre and kidnaps Ilsa. Now Andre and his deadly gang of wood puppets are ready for a showdown between good and evil.
In this movie there are puppets you never met or heard of before!
Retro Puppet Master can be a great addition to the Puppet Master series but at times the acting is just terrible by the main characters.
The sets in this movie were also used in a previous Full Moon Film from 1996, Vampire Journals.Ilsa's house was Ash's lair in Vampire Journals.Go figure!
This is the Puppet Master film that children can actually see since it has a PG-13 rating. Many fans are a little unhappy of its rating since all the Puppet films have been Rated R.This film contains very little horror and actually not that much blood, and no horror violence.
Over the years, Full Moon Pictures went down-hill and have not released the best films over the past 2 years. Many people say that Full Moon is also bankrupt.
There have been rumors of a Puppet Master Vs. Demonic Toys.Demonic Toys is just like Puppet Master and is another Full Moon release in 1992.But the rumor of a new movie has been around for 3 years so this may be the last Puppet Master movie!
If you can't find this movie anywhere, the popular SCI-FI CHANNEL airs this movie a lot of times during the summer season and other times.Just keep checking your Tv Guide!
One great thing about this film is GUY ROLFE!
