mkaar's Full Review: VeggieTales - Madame Blueberry: A Lesson in Thankf...
The Veggie Tales series is a GREAT way to entertain your kids, teach them some valuable lessons, and have some fun yourself.
This video in particular speaks about being thankful for what you have...Madame Blueberry is unsatisfied with all that she owns, even though she has much. When "Stuff Mart" and their marketing crew (gotta love the funky music!) present her with unlimited options, she buys everything she can...but remains unhappy until she learns from a young boy who accepts just a simple ball, and is truly thankful.
I don't know all of the particulars of how this series was developed, but I understand it began in Christian messages (quotes from scripture) that the Vischers (Phil and Leslie) wanted to put into an understandable (and embraceable) format for kids. They have done a fabulous job of storytelling and scriptwriting, and have ensured that the videos are not overwhelmingly preachy. Additionally, the messages are so generic (Be thankful, Love your neighbor), that people of all religions should enjoy and grow from them.
I find it fascinating to sit and watch these shows...the songs are written in an upbeat manner that does what Disney has done for years...provide meaningful messages that contain wonderful "hooks" to get adults involved.
One example from this film is when Bob (the tomato) tells Larry (the cucumber) to "grab a cart"...Larry is a good soul, but not always so bright...he jumps into one of those hand-held shopping baskets, and tries to shuffle along behind Bob as they race to the rescue of Madame's overloaded house. The detail is so good here that the handle of the basket even pops up and down as the basket moves forward, illustrating how awkward the movement is...
The computer graphics are AMAZING, very detailed, the music is fun (you'll be humming "stuff mart" long after the movie is over, and in the strangest places!), and the messages are clear and thought provoking.
Definitely on the must have list.
(Our kids are 5 and 2, and both can get entranced with the action)
The story of a very blue berry. Why so blue? Because Madame Blueberry wants more stuff. Sure, she has everything she needs--good friends, plenty of fo...More at Christianbook.com
