nice nail in coffin (Reply to this comment)

Hi:
Thanx so much for your review of "The Haunting". I agree, this was a terrible and ill-conceived remake. I mean, could they have done worse if they just filmed the original script? Maybe jazz things up with some CGI? But no, they had to gut every original and creepy idea and replace it with bad acting, overblown FX, and some of the most unintentionally funny dialog in years.
I saw the video with a few friends, and like you, we all lol'ed near the end. At the point when the film was suppose to be most serious and deliver its punch line--we all burst out laughing.
Best,
Gene

Loved the book (Reply to this comment)

I loved Shirley Jackson's creepy, insidious novel and wanted badly to see this movie when it first came out. Naturally I heard all the lousy reviews, and I never went. Still, I had considered renting it.
Thanks for saving me $5.
Great stuff, as always, Mike.

I was EXTREMELY disappointed with this movie...it had so much hype and the plot was great but within the first 5 minutes it just slipped away into oblivion..and whats with that ending?? Great review...D

This was one of the stupidest theatrical experiences I ever had, hence why it's on my hate list. However, and admirably, you found the words to better state why than I did. Good job!!

Poltergeist (Reply to this comment)

This movie is so awful- you really hit the nail on the head. I think they decide Shirley Jackson was too boring and that nobody would notice if they used the plot from POLTERGEIST.
Awful movie. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Good review, though.

Mike....
After reading several of your reviews tonight....I could use the same comment again and again.....
"....another extremely entertaining and well written review..."
Two new friends of mine....Jeremiah and Rachel....both suggested that I would enjoy your reviews. And that advice was dead on accurate.
Thanks for always creating mini works of art with your writing. Your care in writing only well crafted reviews is always evident.
My compliments again and again, Mike...

lp,
As a huge Highlander nut, who absolutely despised Highlander 2 (funny about that Electric Boogaloo line..I was gonna use that one a few weeks back) I can safely tell you that The Haunting is in the same league.
It's probably not quite as bad because with Highlander 2 you had some preconceived notions as to what to expect--which the filmmakers then ignored. This one didn't give you many preconceived notions, so it was slightly less disappointing.

that bad huh? Even worse then say...Highlander 2, electric Boogaloo?
And before you answer, know that I braved the Great Halloween Blizard to see that movie - 30 inches of snow, impacted ice on the roads, traveling at about 5 mph just for the pleasure of actually wanting my money back...the only movie ever to make me want my money back.
So, worse then that?
