MonicaL2me's Full Review: Denise Austin - Power Kickboxing Workout
When I was younger my mother and I used to watch Denise Austin on TV every morning and do her workout. It was a nice thing to do with my mother every morning before we had to go off to work and school. It was only half an hour long so it was easy to do. We would do an aerobic workout and then for the last ten minutes or so we did strength training. It was great. We really got into shape when we were doing this.
Eventually they took Denise Austin off the air and put some other workout program on which really wasn’t as good. I don’t really know why they took Denise Austin off the air at this time; perhaps it was so she could start working on some videos.
Well a few years later Denise Austin is back on television doing her workouts again, only now they are a little different. I of course don’t live at home anymore and I also don’t get up at six in the morning anymore like I did when I was in school. My mom still gets up early though and she found Denise Austin doing her workout on television again. So my mom started doing it. Although, now Denise has gotten up with the times and has started doing kick-boxing workouts instead of the low impact aerobics followed by some strength training.
My mom liked doing the Denise Austin workout better than the Billy Blank Tae Bo, because it isn’t an hour-long workout. It is also a lot cheaper. Then my mom found out that Denise Austin had her kick-boxing workout on video and she decided she had to have it. This way she could do her workout on the weekends too in case she missed one during the week or something.
So my mom was looking everywhere to find this video. Of course my father wouldn’t let her buy one because he is afraid that it is going to end up with all of the other unused excersise equipment my mother has bought over the years.
Avon came out with some Denise Austin videos and the kick-boxing workout was one of them. So I figured I could use some workout time again. After having my daughter a year ago I haven’t really gotten back to my old figure so I thought this would be great. I would buy this tape and my mom could buy one of the other ones that Avon was selling and then we could switch tapes every week. And it would be like we were working out together again. Of course being that I sell Avon I get a discount on whatever I buy so this worked out perfectly. My dad couldn’t complain about this plan, now could he? And he didn’t.
So here we are off to start our road to fitness. I just didn’t think it was going to be this hard. Actually I didn’t realize how out of shape I was.
What the video is like
There are two different workouts on this video. Each workout is about twenty minutes long. There is the beginner workout that shows you how to do the moves. I haven’t gotten past this workout yet. I have watched the second twenty-minute workout, but I have never been able to bring myself to do it. I am still too exhausted from the instructional workout. Each workout has a warm up and cool down time. This helps you to loosen the muscles before you begin and to relax them when you are finished. This is something I have always liked about the Denise Austin workouts.
What is the workout like
I am sure many of you know about the Billy Blank Tae Bo that is out there. This is pretty much what Denise Austin kick-boxing is like. Although it probably doesn’t get into as many of the moves as Billy Blank does. The workout itself does pretty much the same thing though. It burns fat and tones the muscles.
How does it tone muscles
Before I started doing the Denise Austin kick boxing workout I didn’t know how in the world it could tone muscles. I thought this is a great aerobic workout, but I didn’t see how it could get your body in shape. It most certainly does. You use muscles you don’t even know you have in this workout. After I did the workout for the first time I was sore for the next week. I couldn’t believe how out of shape I was.
You work the biceps, the triceps, the leg muscles, and the abdominal muscles in the workout. So you are really getting a full body workout here. When you are punching and kicking you are really working those arm and leg muscles. You have to keep your fist tight when punching though and kick with lots of force or else you aren’t doing much good. The abdominal muscles get worked hard too. You will be lifting your legs and pulling up like you are on a chin up bar with your arms. You would be surprised at how much this works your stomach muscles. You also reach side to side in the workout leaving your hips in place, which does a nice job on the waste line.
So as you can see you are really getting those muscles in shape. My arms and legs were killing me when I started doing the workout. It is getting a little easier now.
Aerobics
You get a really good aerobic workout too. Doing all that jumping around and kicking does wonders for your heart rate. This isn’t really low impact aerobics so be careful if you have a heart condition. Be sure to consult your doctor first. You can make it low impact though. When Denise is doing jumping jacks and running and skipping you can walk in place. It does get very tiring though. I am very worn out when I am finished with the workout. And I haven’t even begun the advanced workout yet. That one is even harder.
Conclusion
My mom and I have found this workout to be very fun and rewarding. It gets a little difficult to do when you have a one-year-old running around you, but I have found ways to kick around her. I will usually try putting her in her high chair with some cereal to keep her out of my way, but sometimes this can get difficult because she wants to get down and run around and jump with mommy. It doesn’t matter what kind of workout I am doing though; my daughter will always get in the way.
This is a quick and fun workout that really strengthens the muscles. Before I started doing this my back would hurt a lot from picking up my daughter all day long, but now I have less back pain. And I would have to say it is all thanks to Denise Austin.
It is a really fun way to keep in shape. You can do this video a couple days a week and keep those pounds off. This video along with a healthy diet is sure to make those pounds just melt away.
