ssjakira1's Full Review: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play Vol. 11 - The Qu...
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
After heading off for the best ice cream ever (ok, so Ben & Jerrys Chocolate Therapy actually rivals the DQ Chocolate Xtreme), doing some writing, and getting my weekly fix of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, its time for the Fushigi Yuugi fest to continue on!
Welcome to Volume 11, and the next three episodes. If youre coming in now, you dont have two choices anymore, haha. Sorry, but youll have to look at Volume 1 or you wont know anything. The series flows from one episode to another, so even the recap episode from Volume 9 wont help anymore because a lot of major things have happened since then. So if you intend to buy this series, be careful because reading on the summary especially may spoil some things for you. And we dont want that do we? ^_~
Summary Overhaul: Miaka Yuuki is a 15-year-old schoolgirl who discovers an old book called after following a mysterious bird. She and her friend Yui have both been sucked into it and become characters in the book, which Miakas brother Keisuke and his friend Tetsuya are now reading. Miaka has become the Priestess of Suzaku and met all seven Suzaku warriors in the land of Konan; Tamahome, Hotohori, Nuriko, Tasuki, Mitsukake, Chichiri, and Chiriko, and has fallen in love with Tamahome. Yui has become the Priestess of Seiryu and met with some of the Seiryu Seven, including Nakago, a strange foreign general of the land of Kutou, Suboshi, and Soi. She never got to meet Ashịtare or Suboshis twin brother Amiboshi. Miaka and Yui are now enemies, and each of them have lost members of their seven protectors and are now on a quest to find a relic called the Shinzaho to summon their respective Beast Gods. But at the end will they be able to save themselves, become friends again and escape the Universe of the Four Gods? And what will Keisuke and Tetsuya find out about the book?
Episode info time! Since each episode slips right into the next one, the info I give you is, as always, pretty basic, because I try my best not to spoil things for you.
Episode 34: Nurikos last action was to move that huge rock to allow Miaka and the others in. Will they find the Shinzaho in this frozen ice cave? Or will they be stopped by members of the Genbu Seven? Wait, Genbu Seven? Didnt they die 200 years ago?
Episode 35: After that little surprise bit of information, another journey is in store for Miaka and her remaining Suzaku warriors. Honestly, why does Miaka always run off on her own like that? Baka Aww, Nakagos mean. Actually, somehow that doesnt seem like a good idea on his part. Whoa!! Taiitsukun! Dang what kind of a technique is that?? Suddenly this series took a totally wild turn.
Episode 36: Finally the truth about Yui is revealed and we find out just how nasty Nakago really is. And trust me, he is ugly. Still #@$&%! Nakago is hot! Too bad hes evil but mmm delicious. Im sorry, I just cant help but appreciate a really good villain. Oh good lord Miaka how stupid are you? Ok, so this plot device is getting old
The music within the show is older, some saxophone for tender moments, which I find amusing (I always end up thinking of Kenny G or something), and then theres the opening and closing songs. Theyre pretty good and can get stuck in your head I usually end up humming one of them right before I turn on the show. Theyre both upbeat and I like them for that. Haha, and I love what they did at the end of episode 34 tricking us into thinking the show was over and then bringing things to a record-screeching halt. I was wondering what was going on
The animation is good as always and Im sure its going to stay that way for the rest of the series. After all, there are only 16 episodes to go. The same goes for all the voices there havent been any changes (trust me, Id know, haha), and even though I wasnt too keen on some of them at first, Im accustomed to them now, even though I will admit there are still times that do irk my little eardrums, such as Tasuki getting too excited. Dont really have to worry about Nuriko anymore (aww). I did like the two Genbu warriors too they were both quite nice for their brief camera time. Oh and Im sooo sad at Tomos voice. The minute I heard it I didnt like it, but then when I saw him step out I was really disappointed. He looks so awesome and yet his voice is just not awesome. I mean, I can understand a sly, trickster guy with that kind of voice, but not Tomo. Agh, the more I hear it the more I dont like it.
I guess I was wrong when I said I thought the comedy relief during times of serious moments had passed. They really could have done without Tamahome making those jokes after Miakas ordeal no guy with any brains at all is going to do that. And then later when shes in the lake and punches him. That wasnt necessary either. The only times I really dont care is when Tasuki is acting up the bit with the horse was hilarious. But then during that part nothing was really serious. Anyway, the nice pace of the story keeps you hooked and the things the groups encounter make for difficult predictions (which Im always trying to do). Especially with episode 35. I kinda went into shock, stuck in omfg mode for oh, the whole second half of the show. (If you dont know what omfg means, you can go look it up, haha)
A warning for all you parents out there I dont know what you allow your child to see and not see, so Ill just point out that there is a tiny bit of swearing, violence (blood, death, etc.), a bit of cross-dressing (although that was in most of the previous volumes), and some nudity/sexual content especially in this volume. Things have taken a very dramatic turn. So really, its up to you. Im sure a 15-year-old can handle it, but theyre your kids!
There are 52 episodes on a total of 16 volumes, and things are still interesting. Im really excited now because I kept wondering whether or not Id get to find out about any of the other warriors for the other two Beast Gods. Happy, happy, joy, joy! Either way, Im glad Im borrowing these, because Im too cheap to shell out that much cash. Despite that, now I really want to get the DVD versions so I can get my hands on the subtitled version. I really wanna know what its like in Japanese. Especially Nuriko
Volume 11:
34: Guardians of Ice
35: Hells Mirage
36: Trampled Love
