How well you like or dislike Sleepy Hollow is all about how well you like Tim Burton's view of the world. In typical Burton fashion he leaves nothing to the imagination -- he's too busy showing you the inner recesses of his nightmare world. I have to admit that in spite of the gore and maybe even a bit because of Burton's gothic, over-the-top interpretation of Washington Irving's classic -- Ichabod Crane is no longer a hapless school master but is now a tortured constable from New York investigating serial murder and deep, dark secrets in Sleepy Hollow -- I was entertained. There are probably a few more laughs than Burton intended but that is part of the fun.
I was even intrigued enough after seeing the movie to go back and read the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. If even a small percentage of the folks who see this movie do the same Sleepy Hollow will be redeemed.
It would have been a more appropriate Halloween release (but there is always video next year).
