Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress. Three nominations greatly deserved by BEING JOHN MALKOVICH. This very original movie, brought to us in part by the great mind of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, and also by director Spike Jonze is nothing like you have ever seen before.
Now I am not talking about cheesy originals like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes or the very vamped up and over rated Eyes Wide Shut. Yes, when these movies came out they were original, but good?” No.
Being John Malkovich good? YES YES YES. Now I will admit it, I am a sucker for big budget action flicks that blow up everything from New York to Orange, Texas, I love them, and I ordinarily am not much of a fan of “Indy” films. Now I do not know if this movie is actually considered an indy film, but you know what I am talking about.
Craig Schwartz, who is brilliantly played by John Cusack is a struggling puppeteer who is forced to take a job at a very odd office, where he discovers a small door. Upon further inspection, Schwartz(Cusack) finds himself being sucked into what a first you expect to be another dimension, but in fact it is straight into perhaps the creepiest actor ever John Malkovich. Schrawtz is able to see right through Malkovich’s eyes. After 15 minutes though, Schwartz finds himself forced out of Malkvich’s body and spit out on the New Jersey Turnpike. Yes the Turnpike.
Realizing the possibilities of this, Schwartz teams up with a co-worker and decide to charge $200 for anybody who wants to become someone else for 15 minutes.
Cameron Diaz plays a quite unattractive and homely wife to Cusack with an important role in the movie, which if discussed would ruin a startling surprise.
This cutting edge original movie has plenty of shocks and surprises and leave you wondering “WHAT IF I COULD DO THAT” after it’s over.
Oh yeah, should have won every award it was nominated for.
