What can I say about the Green Mile? Well, I can start by saying, I do agree with the masses, it is very long, but the 3+ hours spent watching the Green Mile are all pleasurable. I loved the movie. There were a few things I didn't like, of course I have never seen a movie without something in it that I didn't agree with, but those flaws were overwhelmed by incredible acting, a great storyline, and detailed characters.
Having read the book, let me start by saying that it an almost flawless adaptation. The things missing from the book were really not that missed by me. The choice of actors was impeccable, Michael Clark Duncan was born to play the role. He so Encompasses the character of John Coffey(like the drink, only not spelled the same), that I felt almost as if Stephen King had him in mind while writing the book. I fell in love with the character, and found myself crying with his pain. Tom Hanks is one of those, can't go wrong with, actors, and plays the part of prisoc guard Paul Edgecome beautifully. The other actors were also magnificent, but Duncan was the standout for me.
The storyline is so awesome. It takes you through the whole emotional cycle, you'll cry, bang you fist in anger, and laugh with the characters. The movie leaves you wondering a few things, but not to the point that it bothers you, justs makes you think. Everytime the plot seems to thin, something happens to make you ask another question, but in the end most loose ends are tied up nicely, leaving a feeling of satisfaction. Overall, The Green Mile is a great movie to cuddle up with a loved one on a lazy day and spend 3 hours watching a masterpiece of cinematography.
