Pros:some good cgi, an awsome dvd with tons of features
Cons:you have some very chessey dialogue, and a hypocritical moral, Pikachus vacation
The Bottom Line: for Pokemaniacs only

Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.

This is the first movie in which every body favorite battling cute monsters stared. The Pokemon first movie is separated into two movies a mini movie (Pikachus vacation) and a main feature (called Mewtwo's strikes back). Here are my thoughts.

Pikachus vacation.
Anybody over the age 5 might want to grab a Pokepillow, if not a Pokebarf bag because you’re going to need it for this overly cute mini movie. In it Pikachu and the gang go to a Pokemon only amusement park, the park is for the study of Pokemon on vacation. In it Pikachu has to baby-sit Togepi, keep the other Pokemon from fighting with bullies, and help Ash's Charizard out of a scrape that he manages to get himself into.

Why I don't like the mini movie is this; without Ash and the gang all Pokemon is an overly cute version of Loony tunes. Which wouldn’t bother me at all because they prove that they could do an overly curtsey looney tune thing in Pikachu's rescue adventure. This movie in it's self would have been good, but they also added in Ash's Pokedex Dexter telling use how Pokemon like to get along etc. that is so corny that it makes me want to puke. In fact the whole reason I got this DVD is so I could skip over Pikachus Vacation.

Mewtwo Strikes back.
In this one scientist working for Team Rocket has managed to clone a super Pokemon named Mewtwo. When Mewtwo leans out that is live is nothing but an experiment he goes crazy and destroys the scientist and their lab. The leader of team rocket Giovani later adopts Mewtwo. Giovani helps Mewtwo learn is true power; but when Mewtwo releases that Giovani is just using him he escapes from Giovani. Now Mewtwo plans on whipping out the human race.

The first part of his plan is to lure Pokemon trainers to his island; with invitations to battle the world’s greatest Pokemon master. He plans on stealing and cloning their Pokemon. Of course one of those invitation winds up in the hands of the "twerp trio". Now Ash is in a hurry to get to New Island but that's going to be difficult because there has been a worldwide weather disaster and theirs is a fierce storm near new island. Also an ancient Pokemon named Mew has been spotted flying around New island.

Now there are several good and bad things about this movie. The battle between Mew and Mewtwo is actually pretty good and probably the best part of the movie.

Now for the bad parts.
A lot of people don't like the ending; but I am not one of them I like the ending and Mewtwos change of heart. I just can't stand some of the moral garbage before the ending. The worst part would be the part where team rocket starts winning about how bad fighting really is, if you can get thorough this part without getting nauseous then you are a stronger man then I am.

Another thing I don't like is the fact that this movie doesn’t capture the humor in the TV show. There are no lady man's routines none my Brock (which either gets him slapped or dragged away by Ash and Misty), Ash and Misty aren't at each other throats, there are no puns by team rocket, and no wise cracks from Mewoth. The closest thing that might smell like it comes from the cartoon series is Meowths line at the beginning that the last time he ate Jessie cooking he lost 8 of his 9 lives.

The movie is decent and has it's bad moments along with it's good moment's
The DVD
While the movie is decent the DVD is awesome especially seeing how it's a kid's movie.

The only bad thing about the DVD package is that its video is in standard and is a tad bit grainy.

However there is plenty to like in the special features area.

Two hidden clips: Mewtwos origins and Ash's journey.

Mewtwo's origin is sort of like an alternate beginning to the movie. In it shows the scientist digging up a mew fossil near a temple in the mountains. This little clip is actually pretty good, it also shows where the mountain is from in Mewtwo's dreams at the beginning.

Ash's Journey.
This is basically a brief introduction to the cartoon series. Brock tells basically what the plot of the cartoon characters and Ash's dreams in live. It's OK but it has nothing to do with the movie really.

A sneak peek at Pokemon the movie 2000.
Yeah it's already released but this is what got me excited about the sequel, and tipped me off that it whould definatley be a better movie.

Commentry
The commentary by the voice director and the producer. While it's not the most exciting or talkative commentary it is an interesting one to hear. In it they tell about all the troubles they had to go through in the dubbing. What they changed in the movie to help it more understandable to American audience has well has where they added in new CGI. They also tell you about mistakes and bloopers in the movie. The commentary itself is just about has good has the movie itself.

a music video my M2M.
I don't know how this got on the sound track it doesn’t have anything really do with Pokemon. I guess the fact that it was the flavor of the month when Pokemon the first movie was released that they decided to throw this in. The song isn’t that good basically about two girls dumping there boy friends; because they told them they loved them on there first date.

DVD rom features
If you’re a pokemanic who owns a computer with a DVD rom then this movie is for you. Inside the DVD rom has history of anime and video games, matching games, and quizzes. There are also web links to plenty of Pokemon sites and Pokemon the first movie sites. The most interesting part would be the history of anime and video games, in it they go thorough the history of both from space world to the dreamcast, through speed racer to Pokemon.

If you’re a Pokemaniac then this is the dvd for you, if not then you should probably just rent it.
