This movie was another one of my guy's picks. We finally found a video store in our city that isn't out of the new releases all the time!
The opening takes place at a funeral in a church in a foreign country.
One of the main characters is a Priest who was sent by the Catholic church to investigate so called "miracles". He was sent because not only was he a priest, but he was also a scientist. I feel that he didn't really use his scientist skills in this movie, but I guess it gives him a reason to be sent as opposed to some other priest.
He ends up getting called back to investigate as to whether or not Frankie /played by Patricia Arquette/ was a Stigmata. Stigmata are supposedly deeply religious people who are highly sensitive to the battle of good versus evil and are often easily possessed. At first he didn't think she was a stigmata because she was an atheist, but gets proved wrong by her writing in an old ancient language, speaking in tongues, and seeing duplicated wounds that jesus had during the crucification.
The photography in this movie was interesting. It seemed to have that Natural Born Killers style to it at times. The scenes were nicely done, and the actors/actresses were believable.
The movie focuses alot on the old idea of how the Catholic church purposely keeps information from the people. If you are Catholic, and you don't mind the Catholic church getting picked on then yes see the movie!
I give this movie a thumbs up. It kept my attention, and it will probably keep yours too ;).
