Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie''s plot.
If you are a person who enjoyed the original Startrek series with Captain Kirk, proceed. :)
Otherwise, ignore my opinions and log off - our tastes are different.
I don't mean just enjoyed - you probably have purchased the series and watch them over and over again. And attended Startrek conventions in your youth!
If so, you really, really will enjoy Galaxy Quest!
The big plot is revealed here because the movie is much more enjoyable if you know the plot.
A TV program, "Galaxy Quest" exists - it is obviously a take off of Startrek. It has trekie-like fans who attend conventions.
Some young trekkies try to ask the Captain a technical question about the ship and are rebuffed. Any true trekkie like me can identify with their disappointment - being told that it is not real. To us it IS real. Bummer!
But it turns out that aliens have received the TV program over time and they are extremely technically adapt and they have created a ship exactly like the Galaxy Quest's ship that works perfectly! The Captain finds out about this and takes his crew into space to defeat the evil. All things work exactly like in on their TV series!
Well, at the end, the good guys are in serious trouble and need detailed knowledge of how the ship works which, being just actors, they neglected to remember. Remember those rejected boys? The captain manages to contact them to get the data and uses it to win.
Now the glorious part if you are imagining yourself to be those boys: It WAS real and you helped save the day!!
The whole movie is really about the boys and all the trekkies they represent, even though they appear in only 2% of the movie. Keep that in mind and see the greatest film ever made!
If you were such a trekkie, your eyes will be blurry with tears at the end. If you are a brain-dead non-trekkie you will wonder what the point of that movie was. Sorry, we are from different galaxies.
