My husband and I rent movies pretty regularly so we see all the new movies on video as soon as they come out. Movies like "My Dog Skip" are not the norm for us as we usually get the latest thriller or drama, but being like we own a Jack Russell Terrier we decided this looked like a cute movie.

First of all let me just say that our Jack Russell is more than just a pet to us. She is a member of our family and speaking as someone who has owned many different breeds of dogs in my lifetime, she is truly special.

The movie "My Dog Skip" not only depicts the bond between a little boy and his dog, but the bond felt between everyone who knows Skip. The story is touching and heartfelt, and in this day and age of violence in movies, "My Dog Skip" is a welcome reminder of the way movies can touch their audiences. The actors all did a superb job especially Kevin Bacon who's portrayal of the strong, silent type father reminded me of my own father who's "tough love" approach was often a disguise for his big heart. Freddie Muntz whom I loved already from the television show "Malcolm in the Middle" was excellent in his role and has a long, successful career ahead of him I am sure.

The main reason I love this movie though is because it had a genuine impact on me and my husband. Few things mean as much to my husband as our Jack Russell, Libbie, and when the movie was over I turned to see my husband overcome with tears. We both cried our eyes out at how touching the movie was and how it captured the very feelings we have in our hearts for our own dog. This movie is so much more than just a story about a boy and his dog. It tells a story many of us know about the bonds between people and their pets, parents and their children, and how the unconditional love of an animal can bring people together.
