ssjakira1's Full Review: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play Vol. 13 - The Ti...
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Okay, now youre really going to think Im bonkers, but trust me, I stay up like this all the time, and what better use of my time can I make than to watch anime and review it all at once? Whee! My sugar high has worn off by now so I think this volume will the be the last in my Fushigi Yuugi fest. Though Ill only have three more after this so who knows, maybe Ill just to them tomorrow so I can focus on Hellsing.
Well its time for the unlucky number of 13 to come into play for the volumes, complete with another three episodes. Its too late to understand anything at this point if you havent been following along the whole series. Events are in the thick of things even some of the characters are baffled. Actually I think almost all of them are. Anyway, youll have to start at the beginning with Volume 1 if you want to know anything. The series flows from one episode to another, so if you intend to buy this series be careful because reading on the summary especially may spoil some things for you. And we dont want that do we? ^_~
Summary Overhaul: Miaka Yuuki is a 15-year-old schoolgirl who discovers an old book called after following a mysterious bird. She and her friend Yui have both been sucked into it and become characters in the book, which Miakas brother Keisuke and his friend Tetsuya are now reading. Miaka has become the Priestess of Suzaku and met all seven Suzaku warriors in the land of Konan; Tamahome, Hotohori, Nuriko, Tasuki, Mitsukake, Chichiri, and Chiriko, and has fallen in love with Tamahome. Yui has become the Priestess of Seiryu and met with some of the Seiryu Seven of the land of Kutou, including Nakago, Suboshi, Soi, and Tomo. She never got to meet Ashịtare or Suboshis twin brother Amiboshi. Miaka and Yui are now enemies, and each of them have lost members of their seven protectors and on a quest to find relics called Shinzaho to summon their respective Beast Gods. But at the end will they be able to save themselves, become friends again and escape the Universe of the Four Gods? And what will Keisuke and Tetsuya find out about the book?
Episode info time! Okay, Ive noticed myself slipping a little away from actual episode info into a dash of info coupled with commentary, so Ill try to withhold my outbursts until the end and keep this part info only.
Episode 40: Who are Tamahomes rescuers? He seems to know them. Miaka is stuck in Tomos illusion but perhaps Tomo should have done some research before jumping right into things the way he did.
Episode 41: Wow I was wondering who would come to Miakas rescue. You know, in every anime series theres bound to be some perverted old guy but usually theyre some kind of skilled master, which means this guy must be ? And now Tamahomes made a decision about Miaka? Why? Whoa, and Nakago turns up the dial on his manipulation.
Episode 42: Byakko Seven eh? How handy. As Miaka tries to understand Tamahomes actions, Keisuke and Tetsuya are on the hunt to figure out the mysteries of the book and the taxi driver can help? Who knew?
Comments? 1.) Um, so Ive decided that Suboshi is a bit psychotic. Dude, were you not listening to your bother whom you thought was dead until now? Seriously. Ugh. Ignorant people annoy me. 2.) Any why cant these girls ever cook? They love to eat but dont have any idea how to cook 3.) Ok, overused plot device, seriously. How many times are they gonna do this whole I love you, I cant love you thing? That means weve been through how many made and broken promises now? Though this time made the most sense which means they really could have done away with a few that have come before just to avoid annoying repetition.
The music within the show is older, some saxophone for tender moments, which I find amusing (I always end up thinking of Kenny G or something), and then theres the opening and closing songs. Theyre pretty good and can get stuck in your head I usually end up humming one of them right before I turn on the show. Theyre both upbeat and I like them for that.
The animation is good as always and Im sure its going to stay that way for the rest of the series. The same goes for all the voices there havent been any changes (trust me, Id know, Ive got skills like that, haha), so all is well. Tomo still makes me cringe, but hes somewhat redeemed himself with the image hes projected into the illusion so I get to hear a more normal voice from the VA, which works out. But Tomo as himself still sucks though. I took an instant liking to the taxi driver and the newspaper guy. I think that the VA for Mitsukake does the taxi driver too. Fun times!
Anyway, the nice pace of the story keeps you hooked and the things the groups encounter make for difficult predictions (which I usually try to do, but as of late have pretty much given up and decided to just let the chips fall where they may). Only 10 episodes to go!
A warning for all you parents out there I dont know what you allow your child to see and not see, so Ill just point out that there is a tiny bit of swearing, violence (blood, death, etc.), a bit of cross-dressing (although that was basically in the first half of the series), and some nudity/sexual content especially in these past few volumes what with Nakagos tricks and all. Things have taken some dramatic turns. So really, its up to you. Im sure a 15-year-old can handle it, but theyre your kids!
There are 52 episodes on a total of 16 volumes. In the end, Im glad Im borrowing these, because Im too cheap to shell out that much cash. Despite that, now I really want to get the DVD versions so I can get my hands on the subtitled version. I really wanna know what its like in Japanese. Especially Nuriko and Tomo.
Volume 13:
40: Deceptive Love
41: Sunlight of Rebirth
42: Unbreachable Wall
