Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Gun Shy stars Liam Neeson as Charlie Mayo, an undercover Drug Enforcement Agent on a case to bust a drug cartel. Charlie was hit with some bad luck on a previous case however, and is now scared to work this case. At the beginning of the movie, we see Neeson sitting on the floor of a stall in a public restroom, having flashbacks and talking to himself.
By chance, he happens to meet a shrink on his flight, and sets up an appointment to get his head examined. The doctor recommends he see visit Judy (Sandra Bullock), a gastroenterologist. He goes the next day, and we get the pleasure of seeing him get an enema. Oh boy. Anyhow, she offers him a ride home and they proceed to fall in love.
Oliver Platt plays the role of Fulvio, a ruthless, crazed hitman. That should have been the movie's saving grace, except for the fact that he turns out the be a gardener at heart, who married into the mob family. He only wants to live a "sweet" life, as a gardener like his grandfather. The scene where a mob hitman tries to grow a tomato is just a bit too much.
Though there are some all-stars in the cast, Gun Shy suffers from some pretty bad acting. Many times I almost forgot I was watching some great actors such as Neeson and Bullock, and thought I might have been watching some Public Broadcasting documentary hosts. Every other scene of the rather drab storyline also seemed to be left out, and I constantly wondered what was going on and how we had reached that point in the story.
To top it all off, this movie was just plain boring. The drama was rather under-dramatized, and the action wasn't any better. What few action scenes there were, weren't done all that great, and with the terrible acting, they seemed even worse. There was a little comedy, but very little, and it wasn't that good in the first place.
In a nutshell: I wouldn't recommend watching this movie unless you have already seen everything else that came out recently and have nothing better to do. Between the bad acting, lacking plot and storyline, and the lack of any real drama, action, or comedy, it's just another title to fill space on the shelves.
