ssjakira1's Full Review: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play Vol. 14 - Summon...
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Just to kill time, I put some Fushigi Yuugi on my menu.
Volume 14 with another three episodes. Its too late to understand anything at this point if you havent been following along the whole series. Youll have to start at the beginning with Volume 1 if you want to know anything. The series flows from one episode to another, so if you intend to buy this series be careful because reading on the summary especially may spoil some things for you. And we dont want that do we? ^_~
Summary Overhaul: Miaka Yuuki is a 15-year-old schoolgirl who discovers an old book called after following a mysterious bird. She and her friend Yui have both been sucked into it and become characters in the book, which Miakas brother Keisuke and his friend Tetsuya are now reading. Miaka is the Priestess of Suzaku and met all seven Suzaku warriors in the land of Konan; Tamahome, Hotohori, Nuriko, Tasuki, Mitsukake, Chichiri, and Chiriko, and has fallen in love with Tamahome. Yui is the Priestess of Seiryu with her own set of seven warriors in the land of Kutou; Nakago, Suboshi, Amiboshi, Ashịtare, Soi, Tomo, and Miboshi. Miaka and Yui are now enemies, and each of them have lost members of their seven protectors and fighting to find relics called Shinzaho to summon their respective Beast Gods. Yui has the one of Genbu, and now the search for the Byakko one is in motion. But at the end will they be able to save themselves, become friends again and escape the Universe of the Four Gods? And what can Keisuke and Tetsuya find out about the book?
Episode info time! Will the title of the volume truly give things away?
Episode 43: Keisuke and Tetsuya have found a place called Genbu Grotto and are approached by a strange man who already knows about the book. How is this possible? Yui finally decides to talk to Miaka but Miaka cant speak. Can she trust Yui? Will Tatara of the Byakko Seven trust her and give Miaka the Shinzaho? At least now Miaka understands why Tamahome acted the way he did before Tatara and Suzuno the original Tamahome and Miaka.
Episode 44: Miboshi is not one to die easily, but Chiriko isnt one to be taken lightly, kid though he may be. Subaru and Tokaki have a few slick cards to play as well (and wow, Tokaki is hot!).
Episode 45: Son of a! Wrong roof! Is that Seiryu? Uh oh, now what?
Comments? 1.) You know, I sort of expected the beginning to change by now, the way some other anime series tend to do when something drastic happens like no more Nuriko and yet hes there with the rest of the seven as usual. Nothing really wrong with it, just a thought. 2.) The little side story and end of #43 was really cute even Keisuke got all emotional. 3.) And yet another prime example of bad guys who are too foolish to finish off the good guys while they have the chance. Idiots. 4.) And yes, Nakago is still freaky sorry, just had to mention it.
The music within the show is older, some saxophone for tender moments, which I find amusing (I always end up thinking of Kenny G or something), and then theres the opening and closing songs. Theyre pretty good and can get stuck in your head I usually end up humming one of them right before I turn on the show. Theyre both upbeat and I like them for that. Like the music in #44 too rather unique for the situation, but somehow it works well.
The animation is good as always and Im sure its going to stay that way for the rest of the series. I really like the outfit they gave Yui for the ceremony of summoning Seiryu. Its pretty nifty. The same goes for Seiryu himself As for all the voices there havent been any changes (trust me, Id know, Ive got skills like that, haha), so all is well. Miboshis voice is soo Taiitsukuns voice.
Anyway, the nice pace of the story keeps you hooked and the things the groups encounter make for difficult predictions (which I usually try to do, but as of late have pretty much given up and decided to just let the chips fall where they may). There are still odd comedic spots around during times that I dont think should have them, but theres nothing much I can do about it. Oh well.
A warning for all you parents out there I dont know what you allow your child to see and not see, so Ill just point out that there is a tiny bit of swearing, violence (blood, death, etc.), a bit of cross-dressing (although that was basically in the first half of the series), and some nudity/sexual content especially in these past few volumes what with Nakagos and Tomos tricks. I guess I should include Soi as well. Things have taken some wild turns. So really, its up to you. Im sure a 15-year-old can handle it, but theyre your kids!
There are 52 episodes on a total of 16 volumes. In the end, Im glad Im borrowing these, because Im too cheap to shell out that much cash. Despite that, now I really want to get the DVD versions so I can get my hands on the subtitled version. I really wanna know what its like in Japanese.
Volume 14:
43: Farewell Reunion
44: Moment of Battle
45: Divergent Light
