kimbawlion's Full Review: Kimba the White Lion Vol. 1: The King is Dead, All...
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
If you grew up in the 60s or 70s, you may know the story of the little white lion who wanted all animals and people to live together in peace. Well, here he is, back in the original shows.
Kimba The White Lion was created by the "Walt Disney of Japan", the "God of Manga" Osamu Tezuka. Soundtrack music was provided by soundtrack giant and synthesizer genius Isao Tomita (although there are no synths on this soundtrack). The English-language version was dubbed by top professional voice actors. So this productions starts out head and shoulders above your average anime series. The show is loved around the world. Kids like it better than the Lion King, and Kimba doesn't give them nightmares. People my age (47) still think Kimba is tops.
This tape contains four episodes, including the first one where Kimba is born. The other three episodes show Kimba dealing with his dream of peace and his responsibility as son of the king, and also dealing with the loss of his parents to hunters. This is written and performed at a level children can understand, but it contains a lot of heart and soul that keeps it interesting even when you're older. The tape quality is good enough for most people, and I have heard from a lot of people. I contend that the colors are not as bright and brilliant as they should be; this is because the tape maker used the same films that were shown on TV in the 70s. Naturally, this means that what you'll see is exactly what you remember if you've seen Kimba before, and that's a good thing.
