I am probably one of the biggest DBZ fans on the planet. What luck to find this DVD in a $5.88 bin at Walmart. After watching it, I can see why. Even though I love the idea behind the Tree of Might, I was let down.

The disc starts with Bulma, Gohan, Krillian, and others camping out in the wilderness. A foreign space probe crashes near by. It causes a fire to break out. The guys use their powers to extinguish the fire and save the remaining forest. Krillian thinks of a brilliant idea to gather the dragon balls and wish for the forest to be returned to it's state before the fire. In my opinion, and this is my opinion, this has to be the lamest wish I have ever seen in the DBZ saga's or movies. Yes, I know the forest creatures have no place to live, but to waste the first 15 minutes of this disc got to me. Because they restore the forest, this strange probe that caused the fire, sends information to Turles, a Saiyan, who decides that the Earth is perfect for planting the tree of might. It seemed to take Krillian and Gohan weeks to gather the Dragon Balls, and I doubt Turles, the bad guy in this DVD, would have waited all that time to get information on the planet to make his decision to plant the tree. Go figure.

The tree gets planted, and Turles and his followers, who I assume were Saiyans, go to collect the fruit from the tree. Goku and company have a problem with this, because the tree absorbs and uses all the energy of the planet it is planted on, destroying the planet for hundreds of years. The fight is on.

The fighting was good, but hearing Goku and some of the others have different voices, it was hard to get used to. For those who do not know, Goku had a different voice actor early in the DBZ series.

After all seems lost, the tree of might seems to want Goku to destroy Turles. The tree provoides Goku with the energy to produce another spirit bomb after his first attempt failed. The villian is vanquished, and all is saved.

This DVD was the usual 45 - 60 minute length of a DBZ flick, but Turles was never developed, and I am not sure, but half of Turles soldiers are not even named. I found that a little bothersome. I'd like to know the bad guys, and a little history behind them before Goku destroys them. Frieza, Cooler, Garlic Jr., Cell, the androids, Broly, and Majin Bu all were given hostories in their sagas and movies, so why not Turles? My only thought is that this is early in the DBZ series, and the producers of DBZ wanted to get a movie out fast.

I also had a problem with the ending. I wanted to see Goku kick butt instead of getting beat on the whole movie, and then get lucky at the end. The movie "Broly the legendary Super Saiyan" ended in a similar fashion, and it was a little disappointing.

Over all, a good DVD, but not DBZ's best.
