I saw Romeo Must Die on Saturday. I have wanted to see it for a long time, and I thought it was a good movie. I was telling my sister about it yesterday, and she said she would never go see it because she thinks it's a bad "spoof" on Shakespeare. I'm not a dense person by any means, but it was so far from Shakespeare that I hadn't even though of it, except for the obvious title "Romeo" ...
It does contain two feuding families (I gave this some thought) and it appears that Romeo (Hans) will die in the end. However, this is not the case (since he is such a famous actor) ... So, if you are debating whether or not to see this because it's like Shakespeare, sorry to burst your bubble, but it is nothing like Shakespeare whatsoever.
It is about a cocky asian who goes to a black bar, when there is apparently a war between the two families (black vs asian) ... He dies later that night, and we are lead to believe the black family did it. His brother, in jail in China, comes to the United States to avenge his brothers murder. (Jet Li)
If you are female, and think that Chinese men are at all attractive (Jackie Chan?) this guy is so incredibly cute! And the action in this movie is so realistic, even though few people on this planet can do moves like his (He did his own stunts.)
The film was made in Vancouver, Canada, even though they have it set for a different area, to give the impression it's a gang related area.
Well, I hope I've helped you decide to go see the movie, it's really good, and it does not drag on. It's got a happy ending, and really good songs!
