Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Two best friends. Father Brian Finn (Edward Norton) and Rabbi Schram (Ben Stiller) are popular, young men, living in New York. They hang out together, and do a lot of things together.
In Brian's childhood, he already thought about being a priest, and was already practicing religion. In Jacob's childhood, he was a bright kid. One look at this guy, and you knew that he could do anything with his life that he wanted. But nevertheless, he decided to become a rabbi. For Jake, religion was more of a hobby (when he was a child).
Now, their childhood friend, Anna Reilly (Jenna Elfman), has grown into a beautiful business executive. Suddenly, she returns to New York. She re-enters Jake and Brian's lives.
Jake has to go out with every Jewish girl he meets in the synagogue. I swear! Some of those women are incredibly annoying. Once, Jake had to punch a girl in the stomach, because, she wanted him to feel how strong her abs were.
After being annoyed from dating all those women, which he didn't even know, he came to Anna's apartment, and he decided to start going out with someone he knows and likes.
Late at night, Jake arrives at Anna's apartment, and Anna pulls Jake into her bed. That's where the complicated love triangle forms.
Anna also hangs out with Brian, and gives him the impression that she loves him, which she does, but only as a friend. Being a priest, Brian is not allowed to have any kinds of relationships.
Every night, after another terrible date with another bimbo, Jake comes to Anna's apartment and again, Anna pulls him into her bed. With each night, their relationship gets stronger, and stronger.
Brian doesn't know about any of this, and one night, he decides to go to Anna's house, and tell her how he feels about her. That night, he comes to Anna's house, and sees her filled with tears. Anna tells him everything, including the part when she broke up with Jake (yes, Jake broke up with Anna), and Brian is now mad with grief, but doesn't show it.
Jake and Brian still remain friends, but none of them talked to Anna yet. Two weeks go by, it is Anna's last day in New York (it was just a business trip), Brian cleared things up with Anna, and they were back to their normal selves. No more denial. Brian was now relieved. Anna had gotten a load of her chest, but she is still worried about Jake.
Brian goes to Jake and tells him that he talked to Anna, and everything is okay. Now he tries hard to convince Jake to talk to her. Jake's efforts were successful. Jake decided to talk to Anna.
Jake went to the building that Anna works in, and after he got past the guard, Jake and Anna cleared things up. Anna, and Jake were both very relieved. Jake and Brian's relationship just kept on getting stronger.
Here are some of my favorite scenes:
Funniest scene: The part in the beginning where Jake tries
do the "Jesus" cross (I don't know what
it's called) on himself (and the things
that he draws on himself, whoo!)
Most dramatic scene: When Anna pulls Jake into her bed, and
they get intimate (the things that they
tell each other).
Most touching scene: When finally the complicated love
triangle is solved, and the 3 best
friends worked things out (aww...).
Most violent scene
(and the only violent scene): When Brian punches Jake in
face when he finds out about
Jake's and Anna's
relationship.
Happiest scene: When the three friends finally understood
what's happening, and worked it out.
Best scene: Same as the funniest scene.
Worst scene: When Jake prepares the kid for his Bar Mitzvah
(what is that all about?)
I would recommend some similar movies, if I knew any, but I don't. I've only seen two movies starring Ben Stiller, and this is one of them. The other one is "Meet the Parents" (which I also wrote a review about).
Overall, I think that this was a good movie. It may not be the best one I've ever seen, but it wasn't that bad. I liked it. It has comedy and romance. I would recommend it.
I wouldn't recommend this to kids under 13, because there are inappropriate moments such as the parts when Anna pulls Jake into her bed. And the kids in the movie are very horny.
