This Epinion is about the movie 28 days, and how it has affected my relationship with my alcoholic fiance.
28 days had been a movie on the "want to see" list the my boyfriend and I make. I didn't think about the long-term effects of this movie on our relationship, until about half way through.
If you are in a relationship, and one of you is an alcoholic (or user) ... you must see this movie. It makes it so clear. The things I wanted to say to him were said by the actors. I have always told him that he doesn't always remember what he says, or what he does. He thinks he remembers all his actions when he's drunk.
He doesn't.
I think that when he saw this movie, he could see himself as Sandra Bullock (without the cute black satin underclothes ;) and that he is affecting everyone's life, without realizing it.
In the movie, Sandra Bullock stated that she really cared about her boyfriend, and that he was the only person who had ever been there for her. This is true for my fiance and I. We only have each other, emotionally and physically. In the end of the movie, she does leave him, since he didn't want to change his alcoholic ways for her. (they were alcoholics and users together, only she was charged with drinking and driving, and her conditions not to go to prison were 28 days in a rehab clinic.)
I feel that my boyfriend saw that if he doesn't change, that eventually I might leave him. This movie made us both see what might happen if he can't control himself, and put a stop to his drinking. Luckily, it's only drinking, and not drugs as well.
To Sandra Bullock:
We might not have seen this movie if you hadn't been the actress involved. Thanks so much for playing this part; a part not only in this movie, but also in our lives.
It wasn't really so emotional on the outside, but since my fiance and I are going through some of the same issues, it really seemed to hit home. Recommend this movie if you know a fun-loving person who just doesn't listen to your pleas, and if you care about how your future turns out. It's not only for the alcoholic, since at the end, Sandra has to make the decision to leave an alcoholic.
