ssjakira1's Full Review: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play Vol. 16 - The La...
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
Ive finally made it! The end of Fushigi Yuugi! Well, it didnt really take that long did it? Haha. I get impatient sometimes. Well, there are some series I can hold back on, but thats because I own them. I was borrowing these so that wasnt the case. Still, craziness, huh? 16 volumes, 52 episodes, and one good story with a lot of unexpected turns. If youve gotten to this review and havent even seen/looked at Volume 1 yet, then stop reading, pass GO and collect $200, and start from the beginning.
No summary this time kids were at the end, so thats it!
The final four!
Episode 49: Everyone has something important to say to someone else Tetsuya to Miaka, Keisuke to Tamahome, and Miaka to Yui. Will they be able to reach the person they desire? Or will some turn to denial? Nakagos plans are in motion, and hes still carrying Soi around? Odd. But now Nakago has gone father than anyone had hoped he could have gone
Episode 50: Tamahomes battle is not going well, Keisuke is still reading the book (because thats his only way of gathering information about the battle and his little sister) and has a sudden idea, and Miaka tries desperately to find ways to free Yui.
Episode 51: The world of reality and myth (or can it even be called myth now?) are getting more tangled by the minute. Now its Tasuki and Chichiris job to take out Nakago or is it? Miaka, how? What did Yui do to you? And Tetsuya proves his usefulness yet again.
Episode 52: I guess Seiryu really wasnt just a neutral deity the way the others might have been. What plan does the Suzaku Seven have to fight against Nakagos strength? Nakago? Is that you? Nakago is that what happened to you? Nakago So Miaka how will you let all this end?
Comments? 1.) Ok, so what did Yui expect to happen to Suboshi, honestly? 2.) Ooooh Nakago angry is sweet. But I think his admission in #49 was a screw up on his part. But concerning Yui, now I feel sorry for her. But I still dont think that she understands what it means to be best friends from kindergarten because, geez. 3.) Chichiri rules because finally hes taken his mask off for longer than usual! Along with him I *heart* Tasuki. 4.) Er, question; just what exactly was Seiryu going to do in this world? 5.) You know, Seiryu looks a lot like Shenlong, haha. 6.) Yikes, can we destroy anymore buildings guys?
The music within the show is older, some saxophone for tender moments, which I find amusing (I always end up thinking of Kenny G or something), and then theres the opening and closing songs. Theyre pretty good and can get stuck in your head I usually end up humming one of them right before I turn on the show. Theyre both upbeat and I like them for that. I always did enjoy the background music for tense situations.
The animation was great all the way to the last drop of ink. Its age shows just a tiny bit in style and clarity, but there really werent any major problems with it. Actually, there werent really any problems at all that I could see, aside from random inconsistencies (Miaka, wheres your ring from #49?). Otherwise, joy. Suzaku is pretty awesome looking, just like Seiryu was. And for once Miaka looks strong and unafraid
Final Thoughts? Whew! Im glad to be done in a way, but thats really only because I think I Fushigi Yuugied myself the other day. I never mentioned the head honchos that licensed the series, Pioneer. There are some out there who think that the dubbing sucks, and in the long run it really depends upon the viewer. As for this viewer, though there were times where I wasnt a fan of little quirks the VAs had with their characters; not enough emotion here, a random emotion there, Tasukis excited pitches, etc. etc. But as a whole, the cast was good you can tell they tried, and whoever did they choosing did a fairly good job. The fact that I was able to identify a few of the characters made me happy because VAs I am familiar with means that they have skills. I mean, if you just look at their list of programs theyve worked with, that should tell you all you need to know. Anyway, they were fine. Pioneer wins this round. The recipient for best voice goes to Chichiri!
A warning for all you parents out there I dont know what you allow your child to see and not see, so Ill just point out that there is a tiny bit of swearing, violence (blood, death, etc.), a bit of cross-dressing (although that was basically in the first half of the series), and some nudity/sexual content. Its up to you.
There are 52 episodes on a total of 16 volumes. Now I guess its time for me to give all of them back. Aww, sad. Now I want to get the DVD versions so I can get my hands on the subtitled series. I really would like know what its like in Japanese. Besides, this series has been a lot of fun and I wouldnt mind seeing it again at all!
Volume 16:
49: Wedding Celebration
50: Atonement
51: Entrusted Hope
52: For My Loved One
