Ulfson's Full Review: Amazing Nurse Nanako Vol. 1: Memories of You
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
In my world, anime has always and will always fall into three different categories. You have bad anime (perfect example of this is Cyborg 009) which just makes you head hurt from watching it. You have good anime and then you have the third anime which is neither good or bad, it just kind of makes you tilt your head to the side and make a confused sound much like a puppy would as it listens to your voice come from the answering machine when you're not home. Amazing Nurse Nanako definitely falls into that third category.
Taking place in a Tokyo military base, Nanako is the nurse/maid of the "brilliant" Dr. Ogami. In his home/hospital, he does various experiments for various governments and reports on his findings. In his spare time he manages to be very abusive to his nurse (physically) and forces her to undergo many physical training exercises for no real apparent reason. If you're wondering why I'm being vague here it's because that's honestly all the information that was given to me by watching the first disc.
This entire series is interesting like that. It tries to pass itself off for being something much more serious than it actually is such as during the opening credits when they play incredibly dark and moody orchestral music that you would expect to hear in a deep sea submarine spy movie and yet during the show, it's nothing but confusing violence, plot holes and gratuitous T&A and when I say gratuitous, I mean that that the only way that they could have fit more into it is if they made Nanako naked all the time. Her breasts and butt are constantly shaking and jiggling and bouncing even during the DVD menu screen.
Still, something tells me that this series is more than it appears to be. Sure the first disc was confusing, a little weird, slightly mind melting and should only be watched if you are really desperate for something to do for a couple of hours but I am willing to bet that this will make more sense as the series goes on... though I think a big hint on if I'm right or not would be that only 6 episodes of this series were ever made.
All in all I have to say that this series isn't horrible and deserves more than two stars (but just barely). I'm giving it three just because no one makes anime this bad on purpose and even though it is that bad, I've seen worse and this is still entertaining if, as I said before, you're desperate to kill an hour or two with an anime that you haven't seen before.
