I kept trying to find more of a connection between _Jerry & Tom_ and _Tom & Jerry_ than a cavalier attitude toward violence, but was unable to come up with anything. Thanks for stopping by.

Ha ha, I have to confess that I was thinking that you were referring to Tom and Jerry, the cat & mouse cartoon pair.
Oops, I couldn't have been more wrong....Great review!
Sincerely,
Anna

It's very gratifying to have attracted the attention of the architect of the Great Assimilation Write Off (some of the most inspired stuff on the site). Thanks for taking the time to comment.

the mass confusion if they actually named this movie Tom and Jerry. Oh, the horror. Excellent piece of writing.

As I think about it, I'm not really sure that there was very much profanity at all in the film. But if you don't like the idea of exposing your son to the image of a man nonchalantly suffocating a woman that he thought had already been shot to death, then maybe this is one to keep between the adults.
In any case, thanks for the extraordinary kindness of remembering what I had to say about Sorkin's use of dialogue. Yup, this is different stuff--not the kind of talk that we wish we were capable of, but the kind that we are more capable of than we would like to imagine.
Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, it reminded me of a lot of good films, but somehow kept itself distinct enough to be worthy of genuine attention. I hope you get a *&^%$# kick out of it.

your analysis of the dialogue in "The West Wing" and how it failed to be believable because no one uttered anything "profoundly unintelligent" (wonderful phrase!).
I recently saw Glengarry, Glen Ross for the first time on cable (please, please, please -- don't let my 9 month old son take his first word from that movie!) and I agree with your assessment of the use of dialogue there. I'll have to make a mental note of this film as well (should I take care to keep the little guy out of the room?).
I'd sign off with "excellent review!", but that's starting to sound repetitious (of course, you're on record that repetition can be an effective device ....)

...based on this review. Big fan of all the movies and influences you mentioned, so this seems like a natural.
By the way, I don't need no #@*%^!%+#! movie to tell me how &%#!@+^! men talk when *#@$%! women aren't around.
