To be honest, I wasn't expecting to like this one. I liked the original but wasn't really in the mood for more. The first few scenes changed that though. Seeing sexy Tom Cruise climbing the mountain with some appealing music to match set the tone for the movie,
I enjoyed the way the music was well incorporated into the sequences. Especially when it came to the gathering in Seville. The way the Flamenco dancers were portrayed made the simple scene exhilirating and exciting. In fact, the first two scenes were probably my favourite. While I quite like Thandie Newton, I don't think she was the woman for the role. There wasn't a whole lot of chemistry between Tom and Thandie and it showed. However, one's attention is quickly relieved of this with the non stop action to follow.
I admire John Woo's work very much, his style is unique and easily recognised. I noted the similarities between MI2 and Face Off through the use of doves showing when a character was present. The parallel's are so easy to draw.
The movie isn't overly memorable but it's certainly entertaining. I think, if anything, the film was aimed at women. Sure, there was enough action in there to keep the guys happy but it was more selling Tom Cruise to the women in the audience. Something for everyone...
