I have seen many bad movies in the past, but one that stands out in my mind is Scary Movie. I saw this about a month ago and have not seen another movie that tops it yet.
I had seen preview after preview of this movie, so I figured that it had to be good. Well, most of the "good" parts were shown in the previews. This movie is a spoof of other horror flicks. The so-called "plot" basically follows the hit movie Scream. However, you will see scenes taken from: I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Blair Witch Project, The Matrix, Usual Suspects, and American Pie.
I have always liked "spoof movies" in the past. Naked Gun is one of my favorites, but Scary Movie just did not have the same effect. One thing that made this movie so bad was the amount of vulgar used in it. I am not talking about just a few cuss words here and there or a few nude scenes. This movie was ridiculous and many scenes were totally uncalled for.
The movie follows a group of high school kids. I think that makes it all the worse. I mean the things that go on and the vulgarness in the scenes is awful. I know that the actors/actresses are older in "real life", but in the movie they are supposed to be high school age. I just think that the scenes are too grown up for high school age.
As far as the cast goes, besides The Wayans Brothers, I did not know any of the others. There were a few faces that I recognized, but were not well known. Carmen Electra also had one scene in the beginning of the movie. It was cute, but did not call for any great acting ability, as did most of this movie.
I understand that this is the most profitable movie of the year, so far. I can understand, because the movie lacks a lot of special effects. It has a couple and they are nothing spectacular.
On the upside; this movie has a few funny scenes. I will not lie; I did laugh throughout the movie, but it was just very raunchy. It was to the point of being embarrassed over some of the scenes. I was shocked to see so many children in the theatre. I am not talking about high school or even middle school. These were early elementary aged kids.
I can understand that sometimes you do not know what a movie will be like, however after the first vulgar scene, this should shoot out a warning to take the kids out in the hall. If a movie does not improve, then they should be removed permanently. I could not believe how many parents just let their children stay thru the whole movie.
I would never recommend this movie to anyone under 18. It is beyond vulgar. It is not one of those Rated R movies that is somewhat appropriate for underage. It is in no way for good for kids to see. Also, if you have not seen the movies Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and the others, you will not understand this movie. Actually, what little of it there is to understand. If you must see it, definitely wait until it comes to video. It should be out pretty soon, so just wait!
