Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
There is a certain amount of sick humor that a person must possess to understand comedies these days. It seems like each comedy that is made has been pushing the threshold of offensiveness a little further, and this movie is no different.
The basic story of the movie is that Jim Carrey is a Highway Patrol officer and he gets married to the girl that he loves (naturally), and everything seems like it will be a fairy tale marriage...until the Limo Driver who brought them home from the wedding, and African-American midget, caught the eye of Carrey's lovely new wife.
Next thing you know, kids are being born, triplets, and they seem to have a "year long tan" and "the water beads off their hair", if you know what I mean (don't get mad at ME, that is how it is explained in the movie...I am just quoting). But for some reason, Jim Carrey either doesn't care or doesn't notice, until the day his wife leaves him for the midget.
But rather than getting mad about it, he raised the three boys himself and just sucked in all his pain, and he became the biggest weenie cop there was. The whole town was laughing at him behind his back because of how stupid he was.
Until that one magical day when he finally lost his mind and went skitso - his other personality came out and didn;t take any grief from anyone.
That is basically what the story is about - he loses his medicine and the majority of the comedy in the movie revolves around his alternate personality, "Hank," getting into trouble.
The humor is not for the weak, and definitely not for the kids. There are plenty of sexual situations and jokes to go along with the overall adult nature of the movie, so leave the kiddies in bed for this one.
One recommendation I WILL make is to get this movie on DVD. As with a lot of the newer DVD movies, there are deleted scenes in the Bonus Features section of the disc. You can watch these scenes after the movie, or there is an option where the deleted scenes are added into the movie. There are some extremely hilarious scenes that were deleted from the movie, and when they are added back in it provides for that much more side-splitting humor.
I definitely give this movie two thumbs up and a bottle of Bacardi and a...well, you will have to see what else was in the paper bag in the movie to appreciate that one...
