Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
You know the more time you spend to think about it and the greater the amounts of movies that come into viewing are , the possibilities of what exactly the government is up to behind closed doors becomes more and more viable. There have been multiple movies and TV series revolving around government testing and secrets. Amongst the most publicized is area 51 and the governments UFO experiments. Does any of this stuff really and truly exist? And does the possibility exist that through enough testing and manipulation that the government could actually come up with a way to turn humans into an invisible state? Well according to the movie Hollow Man the possibility is all but perfected.
Hollow Man begins with Sebastian Caine played by Kevin Bacon who is a scientist working for the government in an underground lab. Caine has developed a serum to do exactly what was stated above turn a life form invisible. Caine has done extensive testing on animals and found that the hardest part is not turning them invisible , but brining them back to the visible state. Caine eventually becomes successful at bringing animals back from the altered state to it's original. There are however side effects that appear to occur when a subject assumes the invisible state. After short times of being invisible the subject starts to become more violent than they were in there wholly visible state.
Now that Caine has successfully went through a complete transition with an animal subject he has decided that him and his crew need to take the next step and test it on humans. This decision however was made by Caine and does not have the governments blessing. Caine convinces his team members to go along with this lying to all but two , his ex lover Linda and co - worker Matt. The twist here is that Caine does not know just yet that Linda and Matt are currently lovers and is constantly flirting with Linda. After successful completion of turning Caine invisible he remains in the state for a designated period of time for testing purposes. During this time he plays multiple jokes on his co - workers and generally has fun. Eventually his co - workers being sick of it and time being up they attempt to bring Caine back. Although as you guessed it the serum does not work so well on Humans and they are unable to make Caine visible again.
Caine being stuck in the invisible state decides to take advantage of the situation and heads home. When he gets there he notices his neighbor across the street undressing and he being invisible decides to slip into her apartment for a closer look (sicko), And he does not exactly behave himself either . After being under the effects of the serum for a prolonged period of time Caine starts to exhibit some of the violent behavior that the animal subjects did. Eventually the movie turns into an all out killing spree with Caine being the leading scorer. But of course as with any movie the first thing that sets Caine off is that he learns that Matt and Linda are a item and from this point on it is all down hill.
The special effects in the movie were it's only saving grace. There was multiple scenes that did wonders for your eyes and made the movie worth seeing. The acting itself was good and Kevin Bacon did a good job at adapting to his ever changing role. Other than this the movie was only par and I had expected much more from it than it produced. The movie will make for an interesting conversation piece amongst your friends but is not at all what it was hyped up to be. If you go into this movie expecting a lot from it you will be severely disappointed , but if you watch the movie expecting it to seriously stink you will be presently surprised. Overall it was a good movie and was enjoyable to watch up to the point where it turned into more of a horror movie than a thriller.
The DVD had the normal set of additional features to it that helped to make it justifiable to purchase the movie. Such things were included such as Interactive Menus, Scene Access, Behind-the-scenes Footage, Deleted Scenes, Web Access, Featurette, Documentaries, Audio Commentary, Cast/Crew Bios, and the Theatrical Trailer. The deleted scenes played a important role in understanding a few parts of the movie that appear to be left up in the air during viewing and the Documentaries and Behind-the-scenes features always seem to make for a complete package when you get a DVD. For all the special features that the DVD provides it makes the movie worth having in your collection. Just try to get it on sale if you get the chance.
