Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Well, here is a strange film if ever I saw one... It stars Chiu Man Chuk, from Tsui Hark's excellent The Blade, and Angie Cheong who as far as I am aware is a newcomer to the film scene... To me the film seems as though the script writer and/or film maker came up with a rough idea for a story, couldn't think up much more to make it interesting, so instead just stuck with their original idea and panned it out with whatever came into their head at the time.
I bought the region 2 UK dvd, and on the back of the film it states that Body Weapon is "the most over-the-edge film to come oout of Hong Kong in recent years. I think that was a little false advertising. I've since sold my copy of it on, as it isn't really worth buying, but if you like HK cinema, then it is worth a watch only. It may have been so far over the edge that it fell over quite early on and just could not recover...
Anyway, the plot... what there is of it anyway. The film starts of with a couple having sex in a car, and cue here, given the nature of the film, the obligatory extra's breast shot... 3 people interrupt them in the act, one of whom is supposed to be very mysterious as he wears a black leather mask over his face, and says very little. Needless to say, the couple get killed rather brutally.
Now meet Chuk (that's the actors name, I can't remember the character's name in the film) and his best friend. They are both in love with the same female police officer (Angie Cheong), who is constantly getting in trouble with her superior for wearing revealing clothing while on duty (can you imagine the amount of crime that would take place if all female police officers were very sexy and wore low cut tops and skirts with splits right up the thigh? Man, I'd WANT to be arrested!). We soon learn that she loves them both too, but cannot decide which one she wants to marry. Both of them are the police forces top two martial artists, but we find out that Chuk is the better of the two as his coach is picking him to represent the police force in an upcoming competition.
Very soon, Chuk's friend meets up with Cheong and asks her to marry him, which she agrees to do. On the night after their wedding, when the two of them are getting down to some "business", the three people from the start of the film show up, kill her now husband, and rape her, leaving behind a permanent disease in her sun-don't-shine area.
Not too impressed by this, after getting over a serious bought of depression, she decides to take things into her own hands, and goes out looking for the guys responsible. A while later she finds 2 of them (neither are the masked man), and, dressed to kill, (i.e. pretty darn nicely!) she tries to seduce them to catch them off guard. Alas they recognise her, and things look like she is going to get raped then killed, along comes Chuk to save the day.
Realising that she is not best equipped for revenge, she manages to enlist the help of a VERY annoying gay man who teaches her where to hit a guy so that it will REALLY hurt, and possibly kill him. Guys, cross your legs at this thought, as it involves high heels and, again, a kick in a specific part of where the sun don't shine... Her training scenes are hysterical, and I don't think they were meant to be... Watch as she learns how to use her body seductively, and as she practices kicking smaller and smaller objects with the heels of her stylettos.
The rest of the film has her tracking down the masked man, and there are really no surprises as to who it is. I'm not going to tell you, but lets put it this way, when you see the masked man he is very tall and very broadly and well built. Throughout the entire film you only ever see one person who has remotely the same physique as this, and surprise surprise, he is the baddie!
A lot of the film is very predictable, and the way Cheong defeats the msaked man at the end is laughable. Basically she strips off infront of him seductively (remember she has been taught how to use her body!), just so that she can catch him off guard and kick him in a certain place in his tender area! The funniest thing I thought was (this might be because the version I saw was cut) she strips down to just her panties, keeping her breasts covered at all times though by either her arms or her hair, kicks him in the intended target, and then very next shot, she has her bra on again. She must be the quickest dresser around. I mean literally 2-3 seconds, I think, to finds her bra among all the other clothing she took off, put it on, fasten it, and then run to Chuk's aid.
The film might be worth seeing once either just for the humour factor, to see a story which could have been done oh-so much better, or because you like sexy chinese women, which Angie Cheong certainly is. I can't imagine there is much here that would make you want to see it more than once, so rent it, enjoy it, then I'm sure you'll make up your own mind.
