Pros: Great special effects. Leaves you wanting more.
Like 2,000 years ago, a child is born to save mankind. Her name is Cody (Hollister Coleman), born to Jenna (Angela Bettes), a drug user who has no idea who fathered her child.
Jenna seeks the help of her sister Maggie (Kim Bassinger). But then she leaves just as quick as she arrived, leaving Maggie to raise the newborn child. Over the years it is discovered that Cody is prognosed as Autistic and it seems she has special powers.
Around the city, 5 children have turned up dead. The police are frustrated due to lack of leads. Now the FBI get involved. Enter John Travis (Jimmy Smits...oooolala) who plays an FBI specialist in Occult-Related crimes. With his help, the police department have learned that all the children have something in common. They were all born on December 16th.
Cody has just turned 6 and her mother has come back to reclaim her daughter. She is now clean from drugs and married to Eric Stark (Rufus Sewell), a well known cult leader. Come to find out, he is the one behind the child killings. Each child is kidnapped and asked to perform tests. If they fail, they are murdered. The slaughter of the innocent!
Because Maggie refuses to give up guardianship of Cody, Eric and Jenna are forced to kidnap Cody and Maggie turns to the help of John Travis. Unfortunately he is unable to track Eric down so it is up to Maggie to get Cody back herself. In the meantime, Eric is having Cody perform his little tests to prove her powers, which she passes. Now he must get her to reform to his religion, and it must be done by Easter Eve.
Hollister Coleman plays a great part in this movie. She truly does look like a little angel. The most moving scene in this picture for me was when the Virgin Mother cried and all the offering candles lit up all at the same time. Beautiful! It made me cry as well. Whenever it seemed that Eric was getting close to Cody, her own guardian angels appear to help her out.
While there are good powers at work in this movie there are also dark powers. Rats seem to have invaded Maggies head, gargoyles seem to fly unseen around any area that Eric is in, protecting him and his followers.
If you are a non-believer, this movie will give you second thoughts. Personally, I DO believe!
This is a supernatural thriller that ranks right up there with the Sixth Sense. A movie that holds your attention from beginning to end and then wondering and waiting for a sequel.
